Not sure if I'm disgusted or impressed

So, a man who knows his rights or just a complete arsehole?

All looks pretty fair to me Bletch. If it was America theyā€™d still be trying to get the stain out of his upholstery.

Ah, it doesnā€™t have to be mutually exclusive. He can be both, and I think he is.

But fuck, what a glorious example of both, and I wonder if he would have gotten away with it if he didnā€™t have that damned attitude.

Some more serious points I noticed. First off, he had them bang to rights, especially on the near redundant issue of determining his identity, and presumably given the way they drove off, completely in the right as to his present legal status. Second, I found it telling that the more senior copper rejected the assertion that heā€™s a servant to the public. It says a lot about how the police have skewed in favour of the establishment.

Hereā€™s the thing. How many times have these coppers pulled people with such little evidence and gotten away with intimidation (and I do think that some of the police action in the vid qualifies) because the person hasnā€™t been clued up, or hasnā€™t been an arsehole, or hasnā€™t been (drum roll) a clued-up arsehole?

I for one am glad this prick is out there. Coppers may think twice before pulling gratuitous nonsense like this again.

As an aside, I prefer the ā€œAzzhole vs Bossā€ condundrum posed by the videoā€™s uploader to bletchā€™s rather limp-wristed and syntactically correct ā€œdisgusted or impressedā€.

Wimp. And this is a fucking hobbit calling you out :lou_lol:

tbf, Iā€™m watching the vid again and I caught the copperā€™s initial remarks about making a handbrake turn. The problem for the coppers is that (currently) thereā€™s no evidence for that.

Running though a slightly less different bullshit filter, I know the power of the kickoff, and as much as Iā€™d like to pass this off as man 1 - 0 The Man, this performance has all the hallmarks of six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Can we go for a third theory? The bloke is clued up, is an arsehole, and intentionally pulled a handbrake turn and used his clued-up and arsehole skills to get away with it?

The tinfoil hat has been on for three minutes.

At the risk of appearing to he defending myself against a hobbit attack, I was going to stay with the videoā€™s title for my thread title, but then I realised that I wasnā€™t a gangsta rapper.

On reflection, both seems like a sensible answer to the informed versus arsehole question. So how about disgusted or impressed?

They should just Nick him, anyone who knows that much about their rights when dealing with the police is bound to be a criminal.

Someone used up a ton of good oxygen there.

Is this what Cameron means by ā€œback office savingsā€?

Could we save money by not having six coppers turn up to intimidate one menber of the public?

Overstaffed - one dog van would have sorted it.

Stop him for driving with his phone, bang his window in and let him explain his rights to a German Shepherd.

It does make me think that we should all be a bit more clued-up about the law.

Although you could say that about any given topic really!

Agressive attitude, the police only wanted to talk to him, heā€™s a twat. Bacon breath is probably an offence and he should be arrested for it.

Iā€™m sorry but I have no time for that sort of arsehole.

He doesnā€™t know his rights properly, thinks he does, read too much internet.

Arrest him for offences to the Queenā€™s English - and for being a mouthy twat.

BUt as others have said it does pose a few questions. The ā€˜rightsā€™ are there to protect us from abuses of power. In this case, there did not seem to be any abuse of power, just requests to speak to the the driver. On what grounds we do not know, but I would always be happy to answer questions to the police - when I was growing up, we shat ourselves and admited to anything the moment the fuzz turned up - they always seemed taller in the 70s as well.

Iā€™m not sure that all of us watched the same video. The copper tells him that he isnā€™t being detained, then tries to claim the driver is making off. Seems a bit of a fit up to me.

NO I heard thatā€¦ but I think you are drawing too much from it. I saw it as normal, 'copper asks o talk, driver says no, starts leavingā€¦ copper reacts saying he is offā€¦ when reminded he is not, this seems to stopā€¦ seems to me copper was wrong, but jumped to conclusions rather than a ā€˜stitch upā€™ - dontget too paranoid pap - life is too short and we woudl end up enjoying none of it.

There are a few youtube clips a bit like this where the coppers are trying to get heavy-handed and trying to intimidate people and are called out by the guy filming the encounter. In many cases the police are made out to be prize chumps but, at the same time, the film-makers are generally trying to provoke them and came across as total tosspots. In some cases, the police are incredibly reasonable and sensible.

No excuse for the attitude.

Old bill looked like they wanted to check he wasnā€™t wanted before allowing him on his merry way, and they had good reason to stop him.

Iā€™m all for police staying within their powers, especially as Iā€™ve been on the wrong end of illegal stops in the past, but that bloke was abusive, committing an offence, and bang out of order.
