On this day

Anyone else there for that magical moment? I remember being nearly crushed to death beforehand as only one turnstile open and thousands of fans trying to get in. After the game locked in; police on pitch watching as bricks etc were thrown over at us from the little charmers outside…

Yep…I’m there in the picture…305 from the left…63 rows back…I’m the one going “mental” :lou_wink_2:

I was there. You’re right about the crush - I’m over six foot and my feet were off the ground for ten minutes.

(As an aside - I think that because so many people had had experiences like that - put in potentially dangerous situations with the police and stewards not giving a fuck - that when Hillsborough happened a few years later the response among fans generally was much more ‘it was going to happen sometime’ rather than ‘bloody scousers - it’s their own fault’)

It took hours to get back to Fratton station while Pompey smashed up their own city - hey, feel free - don’t wait for us next time!

We should have won it that year - bloody Adrian Heath!

Brilliant buzz when the goal went in, but the whole day was pretty poisonous to be honest; only narrowly avoided a flying glass bottle at one point.
