Transfer rumours and paper review - Friday, October 6: PSG to make Sanchez move, Walcott set for Southampton return, Liverpool tracking Germany whizz-kid

Show/hide article…

Southampton are prepared to bring Theo Walcott’s unhappy spell at Arsenal with a homecoming deal in January. The 28-year-old has started every Premier League game of the season so far on the bench and there are no plans to extend his contract when it expires in 18 months. (Daily Express)

PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot, 22, says he would “love” to play in the Premier League one day, and grew up supporting Liverpool. (ESPN)

Tottenham and Liverpool are both interested in 24-year-old Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is on loan at Valencia. (Tuttomercatoweb)

Liverpool are tracking Germany starlet Kai Havertz. Reds scouts were in attendance as the 18-year-old Bayer Leverkusen attacker scored FOUR goals and bagged an assist in Germany’s Under-19s match against Belarus. (Liverpool Echo)

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, 28, says he is happy at the club, despite not finalising a new contract with the Premier League side. (Sky Sports)

Former Chelsea star Oscar has said he “would go back” to the club. The 26-year-old left the Blues for Shanghai SIPG in a mega deal last year, but he thinks he is still young enough to return to England and continue his career at his former club.

(London Evening Standard)

Brazil forward Lucas Moura has been advised by former Chelsea defender Alex to leave PSG and join Arsenal. (L’Equipe)

Turkish side Fenerbahce are planning a January bid for Manchester United defender Delay Blind. The Dutchman, 27, has slipped below Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young in Mourinho’s line-up, prompting speculation he may be on the way out – FULL STORY HERE

Adrien Silva has trained with Leicester City for the first time after his move to the club was scuppered due to a registration issue. The Portuguese midfielder is ineligible to play for the club until January after a deadline for registration was missed by 14 seconds. (Leicester Mercury)

Arsenal are targeting a move for 18-year-old Trabzonspor midfielder Abdulkadir Omur, but Atletico Madrid are also interested. (Daily Mirror)

Saints quartet set for international action

Show/hide article…

Already guaranteed a place in the World Cup finals, Maya Yoshida’s Japan host New Zealand in a friendly at the Toyota Stadium this morning (11.20am BST).

Four Asian nations have already booked a place, with Iran, South Korea and Saudi Arabia all joining Japan on the bill of the 21st edition of the tournament next summer.

Dušan Tadić is also set for international action (7.45pm BST), as Serbia lead the way in Group D. They will secure automatic qualification with a victory away to Austria tonight, or have the buffer of a home tie with Georgia on Monday to gain the necessary points.

Striker Shane Long is set to play at the Aviva Stadium (7.45pm BST), where the Republic of Ireland can keep their play-off hopes alive by defeating Moldova, ahead of a big home game against Wales.

Manolo Gabbiadini also features in tonight’s schedule, as Italy host FYR Macedonia at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino (7.45pm BST).

Italy will be favourites for the win, having already secured at least a play-off place, but trail Spain by three points heading into the final two qualifiers.

Arsenal’s Theo Walcott wanted by Southampton

Show/hide article…

Theo Walcott could become the next high-profile star out of the door at Arsenal, with Southampton keen on a reunion with their former youth product in January.

The 28-year-old is yet to start a Premier League fixture for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, and has had to settle for action in the Europa League and League Cup.

And his struggles for first-team action this campaign could see him leave the north London outfit alongside fellow stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

With just 18 months left on his current £110,000-a-week deal at the Emirates, the Daily Express report that Arsenal have no plans to extend his contract.

That news has alerted Southampton, who sold the England forward to the Gunners in 2006 as a £10million teenager — and are understood to be willing to pay around £12-15m when the transfer window reopens.

The Saints have struggled for goals under Mauricio Pellegrino, managing just five goals in their opening seven Premier League fixtures.

And Walcott — who became the youngest player to play for Saints when he made his debut, aged just 16 years and 143 days, in 2005 — would provide much-needed firepower.

However the St Mary’s outfit face competition, with Inter Milan keen while fellow top-flight clubs Everton and West Ham are understood to have shown an interest.

Phoebe Williams continues her progression with the England setup, while Kiera Steels has also been called upon to represent the Young Lions.

The pair will join up with the Under-17 squad as they play their European Phase 1 Qualifying Round in Riga, Latvia.

England are preparing for fixtures against hosts Latvia, as well as Slovakia and Scotland during a 10-day stay.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Collighan is involved with Northern Ireland’s Under-19s, who are due to play in a European tournament in Portugal, commencing on the 17th October.

Northern Ireland will open the tournament against Portugal, before fixtures against Norway and Cyprus.
