Our Furry Friends

Thought it would be a light relief to show your pictures of the friends who make our lives a little brighter…ie your pets.

Here’s my mucky mate from this morning… “Moxy” the 12 year old Cocker Spaniel…

Here are 2 (of the 4) cats that we “rescued” from Greece just recently, they are only 5 months old and were born on our hotel bed.

Too late, Furball already has!

He still has his tail. When did they stop docking them?

FFS @sadoldgit good job the RSPCA aren’t scanning this. They stopped docking dogs tails years ago when they decided it was cruel to do so.

I supposed you leav your dog chained up to a stake in the front garden with a wooden kennel to go in to at night :lou_is_a_flirt:

My dogs as puppies.

Animal hater? Not at all. I knew that they had stopped docking tails but thought it was more recent than 12 years. That is why I asked the question.

I think it was about 10 years ago (2007-2008). Its was still legal when our little nipper was born but that was a stipulation when we were looking for a Cocker…they had to have a full tail. We went through The Hampshire & West Sussex Cocker Spaniel Association. It is still legal to dock tails of working breeds but I think it’s fuckin’ barbaric.

This is the full glory of a Cocker Spaniel’s full tail, he’s about a year old here…

…and this is when we saw him for the first time (in front) with his siblings at 2 1/2 weeks old…

I had a Weimaraner in the 90s and all the pups were docked when we saw the litter. In those days there was no discussion. It just went with the pedigree. I remember the banning coming in but thought it was more recent. Glad it has been stopped.

I have no time for The Kennel Club…bunch of fuckin morons who were more concerned with fashionable breed standards than animal welfare. Breeds like British Bulldogs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Pugs, Sharpeis, the list goes on. No dog working or pet needs their tails docked. Despite what they say a working dog won’t snag its tail if its hair is kept short.

I always assumed that the tales were docked for looks rather then snagging? Either way, dogs have tails for a reason. My friend has a Springer and it looks fine with his tail.
