Pep Guardiola

Manchester City have confirmed that Pep Guardiola will join the club as their new manager on a three-year contract starting next season.

Spaniard Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini, who announced at a news conference that he would be leaving at the end of the season.

“Before I finish, I want to tell you I have talked with the club and I will finish my contract on the original date,” said Pellegrini.

“I signed for one year more, but with the clause that the club or me can choose not to use that stuff now, so I finish here on the original date, June 30, so there is not the speculation.

“The club are not doing anything behind me, I knew this one month ago, but I don’t think it’s good to have rumour or speculation about these things, so I prefer to finish today, which is why I have told the players and I have told the press.

“I also spoke to the club two weeks ago and said that I would do it.”

A club statement read: “Manchester City can confirm that in recent weeks it has commenced and finalised contractual negotiations with Pep Guardiola to become MCFC Head Coach for the 2016/17 EPL season onwards.

“These negotiations were a re-commencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012

“The contract is for three years. These negotiations were a re-commencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012.

“Out of respect for Manuel Pellegrini and the players, the club wishes to make its decision public to remove the unnecessary burden of speculation.

“Manuel, who is fully supportive of the decision to make this communication, is entirely focused on achieving his targets for the season ahead and retains the respect and commitment of all involved with the leadership of the club.”

Guardiola said in December he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season. He previously managed Barcelona.

He likes to take the easy option doesn’t he. Would have liked to see him really prove himself at a under-resourced club.

Yeah, but Liverhampton won’t be sacking Klopp until at least October next year.

Jose already has that gig. No way he would have stayed put in UK for the Season unless he was going there. He’d never go to Spuds and Arsenal won’t can Wenger, so the only other possible for him would be to take Leicester on a crazy charge into the Champions League…

yeah right

Wow. So many top European managers in our league at the same time! (Though shame they all turn out a bit shit).

I like the way Pellegrini/City handled this.

Where can I stick a 10er on City to win the treble next year?

You really think he’ll have it that easy?

This is England, sir! ENGLAND!

Bit more competition than he’s used to.

Saw a stat earlier, he’s won 63% of trophies available to him as a manager. Not matches, trophies. That is insane. Don’t care where you are, you don’t fluke that.

Plus, if they are getting Pep in, they are going to go big on backing him. Who isn’t going to want to sign for Pep at City? Can really see them winning lots. Should be a fairly decent return on it too.

Pap to Man City?

That does surprise me, it’s presumably because of the travelling - and the enormous wages.

This ought to give City some pep.

The cultured spanish maestro of Barcelona, via the delights of stimulating Munich, moves to Manchester. I hope he will have the services of a locally experienced language and behavioural translator.

Do you mean Bez?

Wonder if he’ll stay in the same hotel as LVG?

He could probably have his old suite come July.

Well, they teach much more than just computer stuff at Southampton tech college, don’t you know!

I am surprised by this. As Man City are still on for every thophy and could be the first team to do the quadruple. Yes highly unlikely, but if he did, then loses his job, Man City are going to look a bit odd, as you cannot really top that.

Saying this, now where is the motavation for him as a manager for the rest of the season? Just his CV I suppose? But I would plough your money on Arsenal for the title. Still hoping for Leicester though!

Oh and I hope he brings Messi to the premie league.
