Welcome to the first ever thread in The Sotonians position on... sub-category. As a new forum, there are many things that have not been established, or even discussed in any depth yet. People will want to know where we stand on important matters, or indeed, whether we think those matters are important at all.
We'll start with an easy one. What do we think of Portsmouth?
My feelings on the matter are entirely situational. Day to day, I think the hatred between the clubs is a bit of a disappointment given the more amicable past we used to share (going to each others games, etc). I used to refrain from singing anti-Pompey songs, and I've even gone as far to say that it's small-time. I think the Pompey Takeover Thread is the biggest embarrassment over at TSW. Obsessed much, boys?
That all changed when I started going to matches more frequently. These days, I'll belt out an anti-Pompey song with the best of them, but that's just harmless mindless tribalism, and very lovely it is too. Out and about, I let on to Pompey people. I see them in their shirts, and I pick up on their hog-ney accents. Result has always been the same, rival southerners chuckling at how the pair of them, Southampton and Pompey people, ended up in Wherever, USA, etc.
Rivalry? Sure. Banter. Better believe it, but I personally have never encountered any real malice, and I sometimes reckon we've let that relationship become defined by the worst elements of our respective support. That's my view, anyways.
Portsmouth. What do we reckon?
