Posters we never knew

One of the key aims of this site is to have an honest number of contributing posters.   This doesn't happen automatically.    Numerous checks need to be made to keep those opportunities of earning $3000 a day from home at bay.

In the style of a James Bond supervillain explaining my master plan to my fiercest foe, here's what happens.

First, I check the username.   Cultural ties can be key here, either to usernames I have known previously, or stuff that at least sounds authentically British, like our recent signup Burp.

Then, I check the email.   We run all email addresses against a list of known spammers.   Those that sign up from Russia or China are nearly always on the blacklist.   Anyone on the blacklist is automatically rejected.

If I'm not sure, I email the person to determine whether their email address is reachable (instant rejection if not), plausible (e.g. male username with female first name in email signup) and send an email using colloquial English to determine if everything is legit, guv'nor, ol' fella me lad, etc.

About half of our signups survive, and as I draw a conclusion on one of our more recent signups, it dawns on me that these are the forgotten people of Sotonians, never given a voice by fascist bastard me to offer you all very interesting opportunities to earn $3000 a day.

They need something, surely.   Some recognition.   Some proof that they tried to offer us these opportunities.  I have not provided it.

It therefore pleases me to announce the rejection of BradyNog.   I'd initially had high hopes, even though a hotmail email address was in use.

I sent this:-

Hey BradyNog,

Noticed this signup on Sotonians.  Email looks a bit dodge.  Can you just confirm that the signup is legit?

Thanks,

And have received no reply.   Farewell, BradyNog - we can only wonder at what would have been.

I am v interested in making £3000 a day at home.

I am sure you would be, but first off, I would suggest the budding businessman needs to learn the difference between dollars and pounds.

That's interesting, Pap.

But something I find even more interesting is all those posters we glimpsed for an all too short while, before they disappeared. For instance, I had high hopes for Cascadia Saint, especially after he revealed that he had Isle of Wight connections; but now he's, seemingly, gone, leaving just Furbs and me with Island associations ... well, if you exclude the bloody bloke on that damn map of yoursundecided

Yeah, that is something I wonder about too.    There were a couple of accounts I needed to be firm with, Dave_Of_Clausentum and StickyWhiteDovePiss spring to mind.   But yeah, Cascadia is a mystery, and has one of the coolest personal badges going :)

On the forum that I moderate on, we used to delete all posters who sign up and then post nothing after 6 months of innactivity, any plans for binning off inactive posters pap?

That's a good shout.  Deleted some already, but they were the basis of a lot of my spam rules.

It would be interesting to get some feedback on why people stop posting

I was thinking more of people who sign up, but never post at all.  I can understand more that people may just stop posting for various reasons, but to sign up and never post seems stranger to me

Good idea. If all the posters that don't post could post to let us know why they don't post then we'll all be better equipt to encourage them to post in the future (post non-posting enquiry).

I agree, and I've been in contact with a couple of the posters I talk to anyway, such as Tokes.   But there's a delicate balance between wanting a bit of feedback and being needy enough to seek it.   I could email them, but it's a bit stalkery and I figure they'll be back at some point to see how we're doing.

As I recall, Tokes is a ****.

But what has happened to him? Prison privileges revoked?

He is, as the Bear would say, very business at the moment.   Pah, even I go through slow posting phases, with matchdays being the absolute worst.

I initially signed up just as part of a brand protection exercise.

It would be easy to take a name that is infamous elsewhere and start using it.

Imagine seeing some random nutjob post a load of old bollox using a brand you have nurtured, when you have your own load of old bollox to post.

Well that hasn't gone well.  Half the posters on this site have nicked your avatar.
