Premier League Champions

I still reckon that anyone who regularly puts £20 on 5000-1 shots could be a hundred grand down before one comes in.

We always here about the winnings, rarely about the losses…

so I am already bored with the news coverage about Leicester winning. When will I be able to watch/read the news again without a mention?

This is unprecedented intiniki. Once this has died down expect much punditry and analysis from the very people that wrote them off for relegation, probably with wanky titles like “The Leicester Effect”. Football Weekly did a piece on how Leicester’s form went up and down in the periods where Richard III was buried, interned and then re-buried. I would expect that to be in the inevitable Hollywood film, which probably won’t feature their raucous partying from the start of the season.

In short, you’re doomed, love.

great. I thought that the unprecieented bit was me commenting in a football related thread.

Wise words from Claudio that the likes of Lallana should have heeded…Mane may benefit from the advice too.

“But if one of my players says to me, ‘I want to go there’, I try to keep him. If you go away you don’t know what happens, here you are the king.”

sorry, fuck knows how to get this linked… :lou_facepalm_2:

On MOTD2 the other night, the pundits were all talking about what we could do if we’d held a team together, whereas the show (and football pundits in general) are usually talking about what bigger clubs these players _should _be at.

That is a small but encouraging change.

The knock-on effect must be that going to the big 4/5 is no guarantee of honours or Champions’ League football anymore.

Previously it was a no brainer.

So it should be easier for Leicester and probably West Ham to hang onto their players this summer, even though Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal are in need of major rebuilds.

If we could get two of them interested in Mane we could be quids-in this summer.

£49m for Sterling, £32m for Benteke??

Let’s start an auction.

Goatboy and I were chatting Benteke down the pub. If Pelle goes, and he’s available at a bargain price, might be someone to look at.

Hmmm, I think your judgement had been severly impaired by copious amounts of alcohol…

You can be a King on £30k pw or a prince on £100k pw. They will lose two or three (Kante, Mahrez and Schmeichel)

And that is the problem… because ‘agents’ get 15% - and greed wins out.

Would you not take him at Long prices?

I’d have benteke, without any doubts. Happy for us to spend £16m on him.

What are the odds on them getting relegated next year -

I’m not overly convinced on him to be honest but at Long prices, that is ~£10m, I would probably take a punt.

Benteke is a blunt object, but can be effective.

When Villa played to his strengths, i.e. get the ball forward to him quickly in the box, he had a decent goal return for a poor team.

Problem is, Liverpool, as they always do, buy* players in a magpie like fashion. Oooh shiny new thing(/player), mine! There’s never any thought for the style they want to play, or whether the player they are spunking all that cash on fits in the team or work with other players.

Hence, Andy Carroll, Rickie Lambert & Benteke (that’s just the strikers, similar players elsewhere) go there and look utter shite - whereas they had been successful elsewhere.

I’m not his biggest fan, but at a sensible price I wouldn’t be too upset at a punt on him (if Pelle does indeed leave - don’t think we’d need both). Think the biggest obstacle would be wages, he is apparently one of their highest earners at around £150k - no chance would we get close to that, and nor would I want us to.

*EDIT: Typo - corrected guy as I meant buy :lou_facepalm_2:

I’d be very surprised to see pelle still here next session

I’d rather Les Reed did a lucky dip and pulled someone out of the black box than buy Benteke at an overinflated price on ridiculous wages.

He looks like a £6m striker - and Sterling looks like a £4m substitute.

Pelle will probably go because we have Jay Rod and Charlie, neither of whom we had in late December. No need to replace.
