Johan Cruyff

Cruyff has passed, aged 68. That bastard cancer, again.

That’s very sad…Ronald along with a lot of others will be gutted.

R.I.P peerless maestro. :lou_sad:

RIP - a true legend

Great shame. I knew he was ill but this is getting ridiculous. Still only March and we have lost so many greats this year! One of my proudest moments on the football pitch was when I perfected the Cruyff turn. One of my mates came up to me and said WTF was that? Clearly he hadnt seen it before and thought it was my own move! Along with Pele and Maradona one of the best footballers EVER. RIP.

I’ve spent more time this year sat at my desk with bleary eyes than any other year I think. Awful, awful news. RIP.

I can’t stop watching that gif. It’s just genius.

Lielana wishes he could execute one that well.

A move so unique that they named it after him. Tht’s real legend status.

Everytime someone pops I take a leaf out of Clive Owen’s book, and tell my boss I’m too upset to work. I was just skiving at first, if I’m honest, but ppl keep dying and it’s really starting to affect me. I’m bursting into hysterical tears. I start screaming with anguish for no apparent reason. I keep wetting my bed.

Proper, proper football legend.

Ought to retire his signature move now (bonus: it’ll put Lallana out of a job). Don’t like the thought of Cruyff turning in his grave.

One of the greats of the game, and in my view the best player there’s been. Eclipses Pele and Maradona for his overall influence, both on and off the pitch. Like KRG, I could watch that gif all day long.

If I were you I’d pop back to the “other place” to put that into practice Bearsy…seems like “suewhistle” needs some company over there…http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?56259-Johan-Cruyff#.VvPqsvmLS70

I used to practice this on the local Rec time after time but would usually end up on my arse. The one time I got it right in a proper match it was almost better than sex!

As above, a proper legend.

After his heart attack he gave up the smokes and made an anti smoking advert. they threw him the packet of fags and he did a set of keepy uppys with the pack, all in one take , for the advert. Job done. The kind of skill that only comes along a few times in a generation.

I have just finishing listening to Guardian’s Football Weekly Extra podcast. They found out about Cruyff’s death during recording, delivering a fantastic eulogy at the end. Called him an innovator, a revolutionary and concluded that he was the most influential footballer of all time when you take his management career into consideration.

Can’t really argue with that.

Will be sadly missed… true maverick genius of the game… fucking cigs strike again… hoping I gave up in time.

I mastered this at a young age.

Unfortuately I mastered the Jan Olssen move rather than the Cruyff turn.

RIP. Quit the fags.

Such sad news. Not just a legend, but a true pioneer of a certain style and way of playing.

He was pure class, like a maestro conducting his own footballing orchestra on the pitch.

Another truly great magician has exited stage left. :lou_sad:
