Sad to hear - I’ve never been a metal fan and never will be, but you couldn’t help liking Lemmy.

I will forever link Lemmy with a good friend of mine who, whenever we would come across a live band of any description, be it a grungy student racket or folk duo, would march up to the front and point at them shouting: “Ace of Spades or you’re queer!”.

My thoughts too…RIP.

This is always well worth a watch anyway, but here’s the Lemmy of 30 years ago explaining metal in The Decline of Western Civilization Part II : The Metal Years.

I was reading that he only got his cancer diagnosis on Boxing Day.

Sad news. Always partial to a bit or Motorhead (and Hawkwind for that matter).

Think everyone needs to have a few drinks to celebrate his life. RIP Lemmy, heaven just got a whole lot fucking louder.

He was one of rock’s great characters, music would be a much poorer place if he hadn’t existed.

Lived fast, died quite old.

RIP Lemmy

This record formed part of the backdrop to my early teenage years

This was probably my first intro to the man.

Just been chatting with mother dearest about it. Really not fucking bad going. A career that lasted six decades, genuine warmth felt for the bloke from many quarters, probably got fucked every single day of his life; checks out at 70.

In this age of increasing life expectancy, you can’t really call 70 a hugely long life, but Keith Richards excepted, that’s an eternity for a rock star with rock star habits.

Very very sad. Metal legend RIP.

You know I’m born to lose and gambling’s for fools
But that’s the way I like it, baby
I don’t wanna live for ever
And don’t forget the joker!

‘Killed By Death’, indeed.

Although I expect he gave Death a fair hiding in the process. And they’re probably sat chuckling about it over a bottle of JD now.

Spot on!!!

Absolutely stunned he made it to 70.

From wiki “Lemmy was well known for his lifelong large intake of alcohol. In the documentary Live Fast Die Old, it was revealed that he drank a bottle of Jack Daniel’s every day and had done so since he was 30 years old.[29] In 2013, Lemmy stopped drinking Jack Daniel’s for health reason”

Thats 13870 bottles folks.

Great rocker. RIP

I know this may seem insensitive so close to the time, but is anyone else secretly hoping that Lemmy got his diagnosis, thought “fuck it” and literally went on the bender to end all benders?
