I think I’m going to wait until it’s more widely reported than the Daily Star. Free agent and all that, so the punt does make sense. In that context,don’t see how it possibly excludes a bid for VvD unless we can’t afford pay wages for the pair of them. If it’s true, he probably wants a contract at a decent club with a decent coach, and we’re getting an international defender in for no transfer fee. Like I said, no reason to think this precludes further defensive signings.

Just had a gander at TSW and someone on there who know someone who knows someone on the Celtic board reckons that the VV-D deal is all but tied up and will be announced Wednesday!

b) Aren’t Celtic playing Wednesday night in CL

I think Celtic play on Tuesday which leaves Wedneday open for Virgil day! I am no way ITK but given that we are desparate for a CB, have previous of this type of prolonged transfer saga with Celtic, and we dont seem to be heavily linked with anyone else who is fit, I think Virgil will sign for us on Wednesday!
To my mind it wouldn’t make an awful lot of sense to sign another ‘backup’ level CB, but there is of course the possibility that we’re using this as a powerplay in the final negotiations for VVD.
Especially as it appears that Ron might play with 3 CBs often this season.
