Sadly another Terrorist attack in France

Grenade filled truck deliberately runs into crowd at Bastille Day celebrations in Nice killing 77 people.

Why the fuck do people do this shit? … Seriously.

From Reddit …

I’m in Nice right now, made it back to my hostel with my friends. Scary stuff, a huge crowd was stampeding across the promenade shouting “Run run!”. We got to a corner where there were police/gendarmes shouting at people to run away from the beach. Some teenagers were tackled by police and sent the other way. My friends and I only realised this was for real when we heard the police telling a huge crowd to run.

No one seemed to know what was going on ,whether it was a bomb or gunfire or whatever. We could hear people talking about a terrorist attack, and mentioning gunfire. A few people looking for more information were asking if we spoke French, so the majority of the crowd must have been tourists.

Scary that everyone was looking up at the fireworks at the time, though the main show was over when the screaming started.

Update: Just read online that the truck drove through 2km/1.2miles of the promenade, so by my reckoning the truck starting hitting the crowd while people still had their necks craned at the fireworks. The people of this town were so helpful and kind, and the atmosphere yesterday and this evening had been calm and upbeat.

Utterly appalling.

84 reported dead so far. My Neice was studying in Nice up until the beginning of the year and would no doubt have been at the firework display if she hadn’t flunked out.

Mrs G walked along this promenade with her at this time last year.

There are some right fucking cunts in this world.

That’s horrific and even more so to those that where there, including the poster from earlier in the thread. I don’t have the words to express my sadness to them. It seems though these scum are intent on causing maximum reaction and really can’t see an end to it all.

Horrific.

What hits home, as was the case with the Belgium airport bombing, is that there is no way to stop these attacks without completely changing our way of life.

I’m not sure what we can do about someone who thinks his god wants him to run over children in a lorry.

In basic terms, that is not a religious fanatic, it is someone with a deep mental illness.

It’s not been done in the name of a religion, it’s just someone who likes killing people.

Sadly I cannot see a solution.

Agree Saintbletch but we can’t let them change our way of life. Sadly and I don’t want this to sound racist but IMO it’s the 99.9% of the Muslim world who are decent that realisticly are the only ones who can defeat the terrorists through education not just war. The people that carry out these attacks are fighting against other religions and ways of life.

Woke up to the news and it made me feel physically sick.

Anger turns to tears turns all too readily to numb acceptance.

Horrific.

Me neither. But I think we have two options.

We could either become increasingly suspicious of people of different faith and skin tone, or we could talk to more people of different faith and skin tone.

Neither stops this happening, but my sense is that the talking bit will have a greater impact in the long run.

A valid point Indebt, but while education within mosques or churches is a useful tool to prevent radicalisation, I would suggest that this guy last night comes from outside of Islam.

It’s the same when you get a shooting committed by a ‘christian’ - these people have moved from mainstream religion and have often created their own little world - a world based more on mental illness than any faith.

Linking it to religion justifies it in the mind of the killer.

Another senseless, tragic and horrific night in France.

Which does beg the question, why always France?

One question which is now starting to need to be asked (by Sam Kiely on Sky News). Is it incompetence? Is it a legacy from the dark days of French Colonialism in North Africa? or is it an underbelly of dark Imams hiding in plain sight?

Again a lot of knee jerk reactions on Social Media, but this was a French National attacking France, and the knee jerkers miss the enormous steps that (a great part) of the Islamic World have taken to stamp out radicalism and without any great impact or visibility on our way of life here. Monitoring of Preachers & Sermons, extensive monitoring of Social Media and the Deep Web, monitoring of Telecommunications are as prevalent in most of the Islamic Nations as they are in the UK & US these days

There are however still pockets and Nations that do not crack down on intolerance, and they have been widely reported on.and I will not comment. But Social Media knee jerks do not think of that, they do not understand that this cancer is rooted in a small number of Nations

The key point is that this cancer of Radicalism existed in the West and certain countries here unchecked for decades, criticism of action was deemed partly not Politically Correct OR more importantly could impact upon areas where people (including those in the West like Big Oil) made huge sums of money.

It is within France that these attacks are being bred, knee jerk “Islamaphobia reactions” are simply playing into their hands every time.

The Enemy is still within, despite Merkels’ (and previosuly Blair & Bush’s) best efforts.

RIP yet more innocent victims in Baghdad, Nice and others, tracing the true origins of this evil is, unfortunately, only something that independents and weirdos could contemplate as there have been too many Institutional, PC, National and Corporate Greed fingers in the pies for too long

Terrible, Just appalling

What amazes me is that whilst hundreds of people are fleeing the area in panic on advice of the police, fireworks going off which sounds like gunfire, people still stand there and film it to upload onto social media. Why would you potentially put your own life in danger for 3 seconds of fame on Youtube? Get yourself and your nearest and dearest the fuck out of there.

Rallyboy I agree that was what I was getting at all be it worded badly. They don’t represent Islam at all but in their ( mentally I’ll or radicalised minds) they think that they are. Which is why I feel only muslims them selves can ultimately end this. Same would go for any nutters that commit acts in the name of Christianity or any other religion for that matter, only the belief’s they claim to represent can stop them.

I love the sentiments, but let us not forget that Christians murdered tens of thousands in the name of their religion across history and still haven’t been able to remove their own nutters (especially in the US)

It is not only Religion, it is the circumstances and environment that helps to breed these people, and in France they have (for all their supposed PC & “Perfect Society”) managed to allow, parts of the Nation to become/remain “Migrant Slums” and to fail to offer those poorer minorities a route out of abjsct poverty or crime.

Marseilles had these issues of “discontent” back in the '70’s. Paris had the Race Rots in the '80’sHow could supposed Modern Society not have resolved those issues and given ALL their Nationals Opportunity?

That’s a fair point fully agree Christians murdered countless numbers throughout history (american nutters and their guns I’ve no idea how to sovle but a few more brain cells would probably help) . Not really clued up enough about Marseilles in the 70s or Paris in the 80s but yes keeping people in slums and abject poverty will always bread crime and hatred, sadly the western world for all their talk doesn’t really tackle these issues.

France is seeming a particular dangerous place at present. As always, not condoning anything, but does anyone have any explanations as to why this country is such a frequent target?

Back on TSW, we had Window Cleaner, who I believe was resident in France. He would at least offer his own perspective on things. It’s one that I’ve missed since starting this place.

It’s only going to add to a very volatile situation in France already. Marine Le Pen’s National Front party will see a boost in support.

Disgraceful act.
