This from an article on UI - brought to you in coalition by Optimus trousers and pap’s new DISCUSS button. Ker-ching.

The article says we are 6th favourites, but in the comments someone points out that if there are 8 more favoured teams, we are 9th favourites.

Borussia Dortmund - 9/1

Napoli - 14/1

Fiorentina, Spurs, Liverpool - 16/1

Athletic Bilbao - 18/1

Schalke, Villareal - 20/1

Saints , St. Etienne - 25/1

Others include Anderlecht 33/1, West Ham 66/1 and Vitesse 80/1.

Underestimated, or about right?

I like the fact that we’re seen as 37.8% more likely to win it than West Ham.

Ninth favourite - of the teams that are already in it. Probably will be won by a team that currently aren’t in it

True, failing Champions’ League teams will adjust the betting again as they join.

Given that West Ham barely got through the second round of qualifying, that makes sense.

Yeah, it’s just nice because in our Championship season, there was something of a mini-rivalry going on between the fans, particularly when it came to securing that vaunted 2nd automatic promotion slot. We’ve ended up swimming in these waters slightly better than they’ve managed, although they’ve got the move to the Olympic Stadium coming up. Not actually sure whether that helps or hinders them, really.

The Guardian has a decent preview.

There are still many other unknowns. One of the greatest is just how suitable the Olympic Stadium will be as a football ground, even after all the money spent on retractable seats and the new roof. Taking in the view from the exact spot where the front row of fans will sit it is clear that this will still feel like a big, expansive European-style stadium rather than the tight grounds British fans are used to.

Stadium designers elsewhere, from the new White Hart Lane to the redeveloped Anfield, are in contrast trying to mimic the imposing kops and tightly packed atmosphere of days gone by. On one side of West Ham’s new home there will be large flat platforms behind the seats once they are rolled over the track. Behind the goals, there are solutions to fill in the gaps, but it will still look unlike any other football ground in the country. To state the obvious, much will depend on results – if West Ham are winning and the place is buzzing, fans will take to it.

I finding it hard to see past our 3rd qualifying game. Now I am normally very positive, but I cannot see us winning the tie. I hope of course, that I am so very wrong!
