Saints U23s v Norwich - FA Cup replay

About time we started a thread on this one. Here is the team news:

"Steven Davis is set to miss the Emirates FA Cup replay with Norwich City, while Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand are both doubts for the match.

Southampton welcome the Canaries on Wednesday night (7.45pm GMT), following a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road first time up, as the two sides fight it out for the right to host Arsenal in the fourth round of the competition.

Saints will again be without midfielder Davis, who missed Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley because of injury, while van Dijk and Bertrand both have slight issues that need to be assessed."

If your bed linen is still nice and dry, perhaps the prospect of VVD being injured might change that! I would rest him (and anyone else of significance) for this one anyway to be honest but if the three aforementioned players are absent for Sunday then I for one will be anxiously anticipating our current run to continue. Vardy is due a goal and Leicester are due a win on the road. Their counter attacking style has the potential to frustrate and rob us yet again, despite our inevitable 65% possession and no goals.

Whilst I am loathed to write off a cup run and a competition at the first hurdle, clearly our fixture congestion is having a negative impact upon team selections and ultimately results. Even Les claims the Claude hasn’t had time on the training ground to implement new ideas etc so I won’t be too upset if we field an inexperienced side and drop out tomorrow. Time to focus on the league and league cup semi.

If we lose surely the worst manager since Gray or Sturrock has to go?

What about Fonte getting a start tomorrow if VVD and Bert Rand can’t play?

Personally I’d leave him out.

Discuss…

I have no problem with Fonte playing and I am sure he would be professional about it. I am not sure some of the fans will be that welcoming to him being on the pitch.

All my focus at the moment is on the league cup to be honest. We are so close now, as the FA Cup, we win and Arsenal have a chance of getting their revenge!

Even though I take this on board and I am just glad you did not throw the Bran word in there, Gray or Sturrock, now they did not have an ounce of tactics between the 2 of them!

Poortvliet, Woote, Wise and Bassett, Gorman & Dodd have all been at the helm since Gray or Sturrock and I would wager they were much, much worse than Puel.

And I ask you again, who would you get in that could do better with the current squad?

Is he training with the U23s? If so he’ll be used to them. He should play otherwise he’s on money for nothing…

Bert van Marwijk I have already said this, he has a point to prove and we went for him 4 years ago, I have already said this but I guess when THEY see my name they only see what they want to, blinded they are, blinded.

Hmm, don’t know a lot about him apart from his Dutch reign. Howver his wikipedia writeup isn’t exactly inspiring. I think he would be a huge punt

Hamburg[edit]

On 26 September 2013, Van Marwijk became the head coach of German side Hamburger SV after refusing offers from Southampton and Sporting CP.[7] On 8 February, Hamburg lost for their sixth consecutive league match and gave up three goals in their fifth-straight league match.[8] The supervisory board at Hamburg met on 9 February 2014 to discuss the future of Van Marwijk, opting to let him continue in his role.[9] He was then, however, sacked on 15 February[10]after Hamburg lost 4–2 to Eintracht Braunschweig.[11] Hamburg had lost seven-straight league matches and a DFB-Pokal loss to Bayern Munich.[12] His assistant coach, Roel Coumans, was sacked as well.[12] Van Marwijk lasted 143 days at the helm of Hamburg.[11][12]

Here’s at thought Barry, if he doesnt get sacked, which we wont, why dont you go instead? You are clearly not at all happy with the manager, the players or the club. If SFC was your wife you wouldnt stay with her would you. You would get a divorce. Perhaps it is time to call it a day and move on?

And Claude Puel wasn’t?

Stop being a bitch you fanny.

Need to change the title Simon, Saints U19s v Norwich U23s

Norwich boss Alex Neil has faced the media to preview tomorrow night’s FA Cup replay at Premier League Southampton.

Having taken only four points from their past five Championship games as they’ve dropped to 11th in the table, Neil says he will be making changes for the tie at St Mary’s.

“We need to make changes for Southampton. It’s a game we want to win but I’ve always said the league is our priority,” said Neil.

“The most important thing is getting back on track in the league. I can’t jeopardise that tomorrow.”

If they put Greta Garbo up front she would cause problems for our backline.

Barry you’re like a dog with a bone, rivalling Heisenberg/Glasgow on SWF for bellendery and regurgitating the same old tired vendetta shit. Give it a rest please, we all know your opinion on Puel.

On another note, interesting that both VVD and Bert Rand have been linked with Man City and are now ‘doubtful’ for this game… where’s the shifty-eyes-looking-left-and-right emoji thing that they have on SWF - is it something that only Steve Grant can program?

They both played in the first game so are cup-tied anyway (if that is what you were intimating at my flightless avian friend)

On the basis that I think he WILL definitely leave, they won’t play him just in case he gets injured! Could you imagine?! Ha

Wasn’'t thinking specifically about being cup-tied, just that maybe there is ‘unrest’ in those players (shifty-looking-suspicious-emoji).

Oh, and I forgot to call Barry a whopper. Sorry Barry, you whopper.

Now you are just being silly Barry.

Everyone knows that Greta was a sweeper and always played behind the back four.

To get back to football do we have any clue of the teams that will be put out as after winning this and dispatching the arse we could be playing Sutton united or Lincoln an easy route to a second Wembley final in the same year.
