Southampton striker departs for the Championship

Gallagher, who struggled with a long-term injury last season before returning to score a wonder-goal as the club’s under-21s won the Under-21 Premier League Cup, moves to Dons as he continues to develop.

The 19-year-old, who joined Saints from Plymouth Argyle in 2012, made 20 appearances for Saints’ first-team and scored against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup and Norwich in the Premier League.

Gallagher, who played 16 times for Martin Hunter’s development side last term, steadily returned to fitness and form, finding himself on the bench as Saints took on Leicester City in May.

He featured in pre-season, against RB Leipzig and Valencia. But is now looking to impress at the newly promoted outfit, who are managed by Karl Robinson, and will likely benefit from regular first-team football in the Championship.

Gallagher tweeted: “Delighted to have signed with @MKDonsFC on a season long loan! Can’t wait to kick off a new exciting season #COYD.”

I think it’s exactly what he needs.

Recall if Pelle gets crocked I wonder?

I’d be inclined to agree. Get some regular playing time, bang a few goals in and most importantly, discover that there are less exciting places than Southampton. The city will feel like Hong Kong to him when he returns

Good luck Gallagher. Sammy Gallager. Do do dodo dodo do do. Sammy Gallagher.
