I’ve got alopecia now, meaning i’m bald top to toe. I look back at photos like this with a grimace. Walked around not being able to see past my fringe for about 2 weeks before my Mum made me get a haircut…

Happy birthday, Ribster!

I was going to post a pic of the Barton Peveril upper 6th from 1978, but it comes out too massive to fit. No matter, here’s the link anyway:

BP upper 6th 1978

I can be found in the front row, looking highly hacked off and wearing an army camouflage jacket.

And, as a special treat, here’s one of the following year’s upper 6th:

BP upper 6th 1979

In the front row, towards the left of the picture, is a denim-clad young man with a walking stick round his neck. He’s quite famous now (OK, that is one fuck of an understatement). Can anyone hazard a guess as to his identity?

I didn’t realise you two were Ukrainian or something.

Edit: someone’s eating fresh fruit. Not Ukrainian after all.

Wow. Life in the 70s was hard. No one looks a day under 40 in those photos. Weird.

Ukrainian haha - I see what you did there. However, surely the jury must be mostly concerned with the fact that yoof Pap is not only sporting a mullet worthy of intense ridicule, but he has only gone and tucked in his Maiden T-shirt into his stonewasheds… and he looks to be carrying a tan leather jacket as well… I hope he is ashamed!

OK not school, but University - 1991 second year aged 21/22

And me in the classic indie band pose … still mates with all thes eguys after 25 years :lou_smiley:

For anyone into guitars - that is a Rickenbacker 660/12 TP Tom Petty Signature that cost me 2 years student loan (what student loans were invented for imho) that I stupidly sold in 2004… bollocks… it was number 34/1000 and the first one that arrive in the UK in the spring of '91

What is it about the 70s and 80s that made 6th formers look so much older than they do now… some had beards FFS :lou_lol:

Something to do with the hair and clothes, perhaps. I started drinking in pubs at the tender age of fifteen, and the first time I was ever challenged about my age was six years later (and even then they didn’t ask for id). By that time my hair was short and my looks distinctly more youthful.

Then again, underage drinking happened a lot more back then. I can remember getting served in the Grantham Arms when wearing school uniform.

But which one of you is wearing Billy’s boots?

Good job it wasn’t windy that day.

With those collars most of the blokes would have become airborne.

Fuckin’ Roy of The Rover’s boots mate. Prior to those I had a pair of signed Stanley Matthews boots. He used to advertise for the Co-op and he came to the shop in St Mary’s Road in the '50s and my dad, who worked there got me a signed picture. I’d rather have had a Don Roper signed picture (look him up) :lou_wink:

Been trying to post a pic from me in my Eastleigh Tech days back in '76 …buggered if I can get it to work though!

You’ll need to post it to a hosting site (such as twitter) then link it.
