Search Engine Success!

Something of a milestone for this little enterprise.

If you type Sotonians into Google, we are now the top natural language result! That means that if anyone ever wonders wtf sotonians are, we’re the top answer.

Top marks to all here. God help 'em all out there

We are also top for papsweb

(*Not sure how comfortable saying ‘big up.’)

Sotonia is a cycling club, in second spot.

They must be proper fucked off that we’ve taken them off top spot. Cross the road if you see someone walking towards you with a rusty bicycle chain.

I tried Googling Sotonians, but I got the suggestion at the top of the page:- Are you sure? We can’t find anything with that word that is porn related. Given your past search history We think you are just trying to fuck with our algorithm. Here are some pictures of Betty White naked."

If you google i.e. Southampton Forum, or i.e. Saints Forum, or i.e. Southampton Football Forum we don’t come up at all. We prob need to give google a call about that, if we want people to walk in off the street, rather than just recruiting from i.e. saintsweb when someone says i.e. whatever happened to Tokyo-Saint? He was IDIOT. He went where? Papsweb? I will go check that out!

I’ve checked your post Brian (all of yours will need fact-checking in future), and it is, remarkably, true.

Googling ‘papsweb’ brings up a whole list of threads from here, including one that implausibly claims it’s female friendly. (When did that happen?)

I used to do work for the Google. Pages are rated by quality, authority on a subject and utility for the query made.

This site would be rated medium overall, just the same as fiver mountain. Fiver mountain has a better home page than this one, so it does have slightly more utility due to the home page.

The best way for Mr. Pap to improve the quality of the site would be to have a home page with very useful links to ALL the features of the site. For instance, seperate pages for things like Redslo’s other blogs selections, the automatic Optimus Trousers thingy, stuff like that. They would appear as utility pages rather than a forum thread. All linked to from the snazzy home page. This forum would be contained as a link on the home page.

Also, it would need copyright info, contact info would be optional for a site such as this as it does not sell anything. The home page has to be kept up to date at all times and never look abandoned.

Pap, if you have any questions about how Google rates quality, I would be happy to answer any questions and review any proposed pages for quality. That is what I did for Google.

Oh yes, the swear filter is not a problem at all, but if you had a homepage, a subtle warning would be helpul for the forum link.

Oh yes. “About us” pages are very important too.

PS. When OT is running as needed. He would be a great home page feature with good utility.

That Explains It.

Ohio - can’t you just give your bros at google a call? I’m sure if you tell them about The Pappening, and explain that we’re posting over here now, they will prob take some of Saintsweb’s google points, and allocate them to Papsweb.

Tks

Sadly, I diddn’t work directly for G, but for a contractor to them as part of a hive mind. If I had actually worked directly for Google I would be surrounded by beautiful ladles and have half a pound of coke in my nostrils right now.

Oh yes. Another thing. The name of the site. Sotonians is a non-propriety word. If Pap could think of a name for the site that says what it is, but with a word that he can take ownersip of, then when that word is googled, it will automatically go top of the page.

I’m breaking all sorst of NDA here. Waiting for a Google drone to fly over my garden and take me out. :slight_frown:

Bah, the leaked internet assessor guidelines can be found on the web if you google it…It’s a fucking long boring read though.

If one was to google sotonians.com, then obviously it would be at the top as it is considered explicit that the user wants to go there.

I just took a look at the fiver mountain home page for the first time in a long time. Apparently, they have their shit together now. Updated news is everything as far as google is concerned. They could be much better on that front though.

Nice one Ohio. You’ve now told everyone how to be top of Google, meaning sotonians will be bottom because Pap isn’t as good as the other site owners.

How about: “Sotonians.com - The # 1 Google Site for Saints FC fans”

On the plus side for them, if people do wonder about this this site, then they will now be 2nd to the best, which could in a roundabout way create more traffic for the bicycle club!

Also the de facto wikipedia link from google:
