Sexist debate on LinkedIn

Thoughts?

I’ve got to say I think she’s pretty brave to put her head above the parapet on this one. I don’t think I’d have the nerve.

“Most people post pretty unprofessional pictures on LinkedIn, my comment was aimed at the professional quality of the presentation on LinkedIn which was unfortunately misinterpreted”.

I think we have to take him on his word at his excuse.

Even it were intended the way she took it, his public naming was unprofessional. She should have first gone the personal route by demanding clarification before anything else.

Had his comments been crystal clear, then it would have been a different matter altogether IMO

In all honesty, her picture IS very good in it being professional in appearance. Not so much so in the hot totty kinda way (I believe lawyers would use a phrase like that)

I can see her point but she’s already getting lambasted in the press. Reports give a little snippet of the story and people wonder what she’s worried about. When you read her side of things you can see why she is taking issue with it, but most people won’t bother reading anything beyond the headline.

I only read the headline, but I think overall I would prob swipe left

LOL at Bearsy pretending he reads stuff.

She’s very brave to speak out. I read her response and completely agree with her rationale. Her LinkedIn profile is all about her professional career. Best case? He’s bloody misguided about what professional relationships are about. Worst case? He’s objectifying her on the basis of her picture and ultimately, her appearance. I won’t speculate on longer term objectives.

I’ve worked in reasonably civilised environments for many years, but that would never be acceptable in any job I’ve worked, and I’ve seen a couple of incidents where unwanted advances have led to extremely quick action. But more than that, I’ve never worked anywhere where appearance was an issue. Male. Female. Fat. Thin. Short. Lanky. Doesn’t matter. The key things anyone looks for are competence and giving a fuck. Any employee rocking both those attributes is a winner, imo, and normally loved by their colleagues regardless of what they look like.

I did have a colleague that had severe personal hygiene problems, though. We complained to our supervisor. She told him to get a bath and wash all of his clothes. Ah, glorious rudeness

I’m amazed that people actually use LinkedIn.

Really? If he were an Art Director or a photographer, I guess I can sort of imagine a scenario where he might genuinely email someone to say their picture was stunning (although there wasn’t anything spectacular about the lighting, composition, or backdrop to describe it that way, so even that might even be a bit fishy). But he’s not.

His excuse is laughable.

^^^ Although Lou is just a woman, I have to agree with her :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Gee, thanks Spuds

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t even message someone I didn’t know on Facebook telling them their picture looked good, so absolutly no way would I do that on LinkedIn, keep it 100% professional on there.

I do think there’s an increase in stuff appearing on LinkedIn that shouldn’t be there, but should be left to places such as Facebook or Twitter!

Wow,I’m on LinkedIn and have never had advances like that, I must rock the wrong circles…or my LinkedIn picture is totally unprofessional (which it is!!)

Well, I am a Carpenter currently working at a call centre who has also been a reasonably succesful artist in a former life. This lawyer can’t be an accomplished amateur photographer?

The whole point I was making in my initial post is that the accusation was based merely on assumptions made by this woman. You might have noticed in my last post that my opinion would have been different had she decided to clarify her assumption before publicly outing the guy.

Sure, if she had properly eastablished his intent as fishy before sending him to the pillory, I would be in total accord with her action.

These people are fucking lawyers for christ’s sake! Knee jerk reactions don’t look good for professional lawyers on either side of the debate.

Can’t they just settle this out of court like her intention may have been all along?

Edit: Google “stunning photo” see what you come up with

Do you ppl srsly never hit on ppl at work? Srs question! What do you do all day?

I spend all my time not making awesome smileys and forgetting to post awesome jokes about Pelle.

my problem is that I have a picture of myself! :frowning:

When I was a bit younger (and still had my boyish looks) I left a job as I’d slept with so many people in the office it started getting a bit awkward,

I flirt outrageously with all the girls of all shapes and sizes but it’s never taken seriously…

Yeah, I still do that today. We are all sleeping…All the time…We do it together.

OMG. You’re not a lawyer are you? Now we know why you’ve been all business lately…
