Should Faith Schools be banned?

It’s very simple…if the religion part of these faith schools is so insignificant, what is it that distinguishes them from others and makes them good (not that all faith schools are good, but let’s just accept that premise for a minute)

What about integration of children free from religious dogma? Same sex schooling? Novel approach I know but one that a good socialist like myself fully supports.

Perhaps if State schools were so shit hot there wouldn’t be the need for faith based schools? Go fight for the change if you believe in it so much. The world of education could do with a proper shake up

Are you fucking pissed?

It’s been nothing but kicked from pillar to post ever since Gove etc arrived. What it actually needs is to be left alone to sort itself out free from the insane input from London.

In addition, all the state schools around me out perform the faith schools at secondary level.

The best primary is Catholic, it’s in a wealthy area but you, not the child, must have been a regular church goer for at least 5 years and a place is only awarded if the priest from your church confirms this. Up the road is the best CofE primary and around the corner just a state primary, again, excellent. Middle class, monied areas = better schools.

Inner city faith schools are, 99.9% of the time, shite.

Why does religion and education have to be intertwined, and why do I have to pay for a portion of it? Why don’t they also pay their taxes? An example I’ll give is what are these Catholic schools teaching in same sex marriage and contraception?

Flahute - Yeah, I wish I was pissed. Gove is / was a twat of the highest order. The shaking up I want to see is from politicians who actually want to improve the education sector, not their own position in the cess-pit of Government.

Bazza - education and religion is historically entwined If it wasn’t for the church in the past most of us would still be illiterate scum bags. Now only some of us are. It’s a hangover from a previous age, not a church lead conspiracy to convert you into a deity-botherer.

I’m no expert…but I would suggest that contraception won’t be too much of an issue in same-sex marriages.

They aren’t but what about same sex marriage persons using contraception methods such as a condom for safe sex? My point was two seperate issues but seeing as you tried to be a smart arse answer that.

Historically we drowned witches but we stopped that, also the Catholic Church only recently recognised the World was round, we evolve and learn not through religion but science, religion is the realm of the poor or guilty. Religion spread with colonialism, education? Well thats another debate altogether and very very subjective isn’t it?

May I ask why is that?

Why are 99.9% inner city faith schools shite? The same reason 99.9% on inner city non faith schools are shite.

Catchment, attitude to learning, shifting populations, not been able to appoint good staff/good staff burning out. Becomes a spiral.

A teacher who can’t spell bollocks must have cum in his ear.

No wonder we are shit compared to Indian, Chinese and many other nations education, if Mr Flute teaches us we’re fucked, no wonder Cherts have pissed off to Canada…

Sunday afternoon and the one of the grand kids comes ups and Says "I have to go to church now "

“Why” I ask " the school tells me I have to " she answers and shows me a log that she has to get filled in by the priest for attendence on every sunday. The book is supplied by the school.

A little bit of investigation followed and if the log book is not filled in the child gets thrown out of school. after x amount of weeks not attending.

OK the Philippines is slightly different to the UK in that most schools are still affiliated to a church and 99 % of those are Catholic. but by god did it piss me off.

“I have to go to church because my school tells me too”

My elder brother went to Sunday school in the UK once and then refused to go to school on the Monday morning stating that he went to Sunday School so didn’t need to go for the rest of the week.

Mother soon put him right on that one

Downvoted for putting Bazza’a avatar at the top of the page on a sunny Sunday morning.

And back again TCK

Yes, they should be banned. They are divisive for society and kids aren’t going to them because they follow that religion as we aren’t born religious. It is either parents trying to get them into a school with a good reputation or labelling their child as the same religion as themselves.
