It is not widely known, but I gave saintbletch a moderator account last week. I kept it on the downlow for a couple of reasons, not least because I wanted to see if bletch would go mad with power and change everyone’s username to ‘Bletch bitch #1’, ‘Bletch bitch #2’, etc. Having successfully passed his probationary period, I am delighted to announce him as a moderator.
The appointment was made because I don’t really want to run this show on my own. I don’t have all the answers, and am always better when I’ve got someone to bounce off. There are also pragmatic concerns; I literally won’t be able to do it all on my own.
bletch gets this site, has fought for it from day one and offers a decent contrast to yours truly. He also has good ideas. His vision for moderation, on the rare occasions we’ll need to do it, involves being transparent, explaining our decisions to you and on the really big stuff, like banning (something we never really want to do) we’ll be involving you. Even collectively, the pair of us don’t have all the answers either.
FWIW, my “modding” experience thus far has largely been fixing broken YouTube links and making sure some of Bear’s work has big fucking “SPOOF” or “PARODY” tags next to it. It’s not exciting work, and you probably won’t notice us.
Surprised I was looked over for this as I always like to take a balanced approach.
Plus my idea of the Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame:bell: Shame Shame:bell: Shame Shame:bell: Shame Shame punishment really has legs.

Sounds like this site already needs a moderator to help the moderator; despite pap’s promise that I’d receive a nice little welcome message from Bletch, my inbox remains bare. I can’t quite quantify in words just how let down I feel by this distressing turn of affairs. Sad times indeed.
I’m not saying you’re hard work sarb/DPS/UJ/Shirty, but pap paid for me to do a two day residential course in forum moderation and you were the case study.
I love you all, that’s why I got the job…well, that and being the one person that agreed to rub baby oil into pap’s taught trapezius after a dual with verbal.
That’s nothing, I have it on good grounds bletch has just spent the recent past shacked up with a load of 11 yr old boys. I’m not makng any judgements and no one wants a pap’s web scandal part 2, just saying. Let the lynch mob be the judge, leave me out of it. Dib dib.

OK, for those concerned about my proximity to 11 year old boys (and girls, Toke), I’d like to share that at the beginning of the year I thought “Fuck the corporate world” and decided to work 22 hours a week on minimum wage working as a Learning Support Assistant with kids that have special educational needs (emotional, social and behavioural).
It’s singularly the most empowering thing I have ever done, it’s transformed the way I see the world, and I absolutely love my job.
As Toke has now shared, I spent the weekend at an activity centre with 40+ children, having a fantastic time helping kids for whom the world and emotions are very confusing, and who are likely to communicate physically instead of using words.
I guess this also might be good practice for moderating here.
