TBH Google ads is money for nothing. I used to have it on my website and only viewable if you weren’t signed in, which is fair enough. Casual browsers see the ads, those who sign in and contribute to the site content don’t see the ads.
The foot-fall on my site was probably 100 visits a day but it still raked in around £60 a quarter which paid for the hosting and more. Nobody would criticise you if you had ads to pay for running costs.
Excellent news! I’ve just had a look at the new thread. It’s an hour old and Optimus Cunt has made 202 posts on it. It’s much better now that it’s manageable.
Announcement: We’ve removed the ability for guest members to vote (up or down). My logic here was that as we are using guest member status as a sort of naughty step, then it doesn’t make sense to allow them to have any publicly visible impact. This was especially true of downvoting as downvoting is anonymous.
The only person that this impacts at the moment is Shirty, but he’s been invited back anyway so it’s his choice to maintain or lose his guest status.
BTW, I have to say that I only suggested this to pap yesterday and it was implemented within hours (along with the new OT and better search). What a second-rate web developer he is!
