Social Integration is not happening

Again been saying for years and also the word “parallel lives”, good to see they’re catching on, the South isn’t really affected as I have also always said.

Until we tackle head on cultural issues in this Country we can’t proceed to be a melting pot of harmony, as it stands we tolerate but don’t accept which isn’t good enough by a long way.

True, Bazza, if you really do want to be ‘accepted’ instead of ‘tolerated’ you should probably not post the same borderline inflammatory statements over and over again.

Until then your own ‘social integration’ must be considered a work in progress.

I am only posting what in our most popular media outlet, its topical and valid, don’t be so defensive.

I think he’s refering to the Casey Review, I saw the article this morning and was going to post something about it but couldn’t be arsed.

Britain can no longer hide from the “uncomfortable truth” of ethnic segregation after a major new study found that public institutions sometimes condone “regressive, divisive and harmful cultural and religious practices” for fear of being branded racist.

Dame Louise Casey’s year-long study, which was commissioned by former prime minister David Cameron found divisions within communities is growing in some places.

Casey said: “We can no longer duck difficult issues.” Public bodies were accused of going “too far to accommodate diversity and freedom of expression”.

The report also said immigrants should have to take an “oath of integration” and schoolchildren should be taught “British values” to help bring communities together.

People can read it there, if they want.

The liberals running away from discussion and truth as it doesn’t fit their ideology? Never.

It’ll be Godwins law in no time on here.

I’m not a liberal, thanks.

I’m left-wing. There’s a bit of a difference.

Sorry Pap you just appeared from fucking nowwhere and I don’t have a Delorean, Pap you’re centre ground NU Labour, you may think different but I got your number baby.

I’m not sure what level of integration people expect or if indeed it’s actually that much of an issue. Migrants or people from certain groups and backgrounds will always seek each other out. They have shared experiences, languages, cultures. They may want the services that appear when large enough groups of the same people congregate (shops etc). That’s been happening since migrants have been coming to Britain (or anywhere). Irish in Liverpool or Indians in Southall. Died it matter? Barry, can you explain what level of integration you’re expecting and why it’s so important to you that it happens?

You’re correct Fatso, and it doesn’t just happen here, when I worked in the South of France there was a large contingent of foreign workers employed in the aerospace industry down there.

They had taken over a local village so much that it was pratically their own, they spoke their mother tongue, very few of them made eefforts to learn the local lingo, especially their partners, they had shops selling goods from their homeland, there were bars and restaurants that sold alcohol from their home country.

Those foreign workers country of origin? The UK!

So we can be a Country for a starters, the Irish in Liverpool have fully integrated I don’t really see the need for that as culturally theres no difference.
Of course culture needs to be tackled, the culture of dowry, arranged marriage, honour killings, womens rights, gay rights and equality need to be tackled head on not tolerated for fear of being called a racist.
That’s what this report says and I fully support, only an advocate of bigotry wouldn’t,

The slight difference is the locals cottoned and sold goods to people who wanted them, it was spent in the locality and everyone was a winner.
Bar that you’re bang on.

Even the Manchester Guardian is reporting it, it must have relevance.

At risk of contradicting your vast political nous, let me explain the difference, in context, on this issue.

A liberal would say “ah, that’s lovely. let everyone get on with their own thing, faith schools, private schools, ra ra ra”. Liberal means little state intervention, trusting in the essential decency and decision making of individuals to arrive at a nice cohesive society. A cynic might call it _laissez faire _as political ideology.

I’m left-wing and believe in state intervention. In this specific example, I believe that the state should intervene to end the culture of religious and class segregation in schools and work toward high quality, secular and mixed comprehensive education.

Do you see, Barry? Do you see?

but the point is, the British in BTripzs example didn’t integrate. Nor do the British in Spain. That’s even more controversial, where English have been elected to local power on the platform of supporting English people. There’s nothing new here, it happens everywhere. What you’re really saying is that you have a problem with Muslims, not integration. You bang on about honour killings, but is that a widely practised phenomena or a tiny minority of people? that will die out as generations live in the country. Your suggestion that not to oppose the cultural traits you’ve listed is bigoted is silly. What you’re saying is that our culture is dominant and better. What’s wrong with arranged marriage? It has a higher success rate than our way of doing it. Do you think family breakdown is something to be aspired to by all new migrants and cultures? Do you think that putting old people into care homes is better than the cultural traditions of the extended family all living together? You’re the bigoted one as you see no value in other cultures. Besides which, that’s all by the by because it isn’t integration that you want. What you want is a muslim free country.

Unsure why they picked her to do the report. A review of past reports and work isn’t that great. Troubled Families for instance.
