All,
This little “journey” started with a middle-aged man (!) and his eager son who loved The Saints and going to SMS.
Having only taken no. 1 son to Leicester before, no. 1 son wanted to experience away-days but middle-aged dad is not so sure … is he still too young, what happens if we get into trouble, if we do, what happens if it turns him off going to the footie all together ???
Then along comes the opportunity to meet some friendly types at a match in Fulham that middle-aged dad had heard was a trouble-free stadium. What could possibly go wrong ? Meeting up with a group of people that you’ve never met before other than “chatted” to on the internet ? Isn’t this the thing that I’ve spent hours talking to no. 1 son about doing, yet I’m now telling him “it will be OK” ?
Come the glorious day, we meet up with the greatest bunch of people who welcome us into a crazy world called Sotonians. There’s beer, there’s footie banter … there’s even badges for no. 1 son. We’re hooked.
This week, inconsiderate, middle-aged dad is bemoaning about having to miss the Bournemouth game 'cos of having to count the number of lengths no. 1 son is swimming for some mad-idea charity fund raiser. “Post a link to the donation page” suggests forumite (thank you Fowllyd) … “is this OK” asks middle-aged dad to himself ?
In the last 48 hours, you guys have donated £120 to Harvey’s Cancer Research Fundraising Page. You are all heros and I can’t thank you enough for your incredible generosity … we’ve only met once but I feel like we’ve got friends for life.
What I thought was going to be a chore on Saturday will now be a pleasure - cheering Tyke on and proudly chalking up the lengths, all the time knowing that he is not only doing himself and the charity proud, he’s also doing it for you guys.
Thank you - the beers are on me pre-Citeh.
