Sotonians Referendum : Should downvoters be visible on posts?

Not sure, but we should definitely give £350m a week to the NHS.

I believe strongly that we should not retrospectively show downvotes from the beginning.

Posters were told they could downvote anonymously, to go back on that would be a massive breach of trust.

Before you go giving 350m a week to the NHS so those foreign health tourists can use it up, I want the money I paid in back.

I disagree with down voting but if it stays it should be anonymous, on a forum people should object that’s why they’re here but not by a click of a button, lazy and heavily misused that said if it has to stay it should be anonymously.

It could be a recipe for aggro, retaliation and vendettas.

Are we part of a a social experiment?

Is Pap curious to see what happens when civilisation breaks down and and there are no rules?

I also have concerns that making downvotes public will only attract our more active / vocal posters to use it.

Posters who lurk and don’t like confrontation may shy away from using it.

The result would be that content gets controlled by an active few and the less active many would not be heard.

By ‘we’ I didn’t mean the UK, I meant sotonians.com.

As you were Phil.

Your historic tax contributions to the NHS are safe in Tory hands.

Nice summary of the current Labour Party.

I think it is fine as it is. If people want to say that they have casted a downvote and why, they can choose to and often do.

Personally i think showing who voted up or down is quite healthy. Would other members allow one person to be bullied? I doubt that very much. It might take a while to settle, but worth a try.

Stand up for your convictions I say. I’m happy to upvote and downvote as I see fit. I’m not going to be dragged into some of the trash that goes on here sometimes though but I am happy to vote to show my displeasure and couldn’t care less who knows! If people don’t like that and start to give me abuse I have the choice to respond or ignore (or complain / run crying to the mods boo hoo).

I don’t mind it as a go-forward option. I agree with bletch that the historical stuff is probably too far, and to an extent, already catered for. The new member profile page shows votes cast and votes received totals.

As I suggested on another thread, I would like to see a downvote summary page to show posters the effect of their downvotes.

If we could all go to a page to see a summary of the last month’s downvotes it would a) aid me in attempting to steer content and b) show posters that are attracting downvotes the scale of the disapproval.

At the moment getting a handle on the number of downvotes is all but impossible as they are scattered hither and yon.

I like the new member’s page but I think we also need a summary page that shows all downvotes.

Something like this…

I’m all for showing downvotes, mostly for reasons already stated above, not fussed if it’s retroactive or otherwise.

Never use them. Don’t see the need.

We’ve had this question before, but should we show downvoters as well as upvoters alongside each post?

Three options on this poll.

If the two yes options get more than the no option, we’ll do a run-off between the two yes positions.

Oh single transferable vote, very new age

But in all seriousness if you’re going to down vote then you need to explain why, sometimes, maybe…

I don’t really know what will happen if we start showing downvotes. I’m not well enough informed. Things aren’t too bad now so I think it’s sensible to let things remain as they are. It would be foolish to vote for a leap into the unknown where that unknown could be awful and devastating for the forum.

Just had a look and i have downvoted 6 times. Could you make it possible to click on this and show the comments? As i was surprised to see 6. Don’t remember any of them. Fat fingers, shit memory or pissed voting?

I’m proud of my downvotes! I’ve got loads! Mostly from Tokyo probably. If I didn’t get any I’d worry I was a Chapel Kate. I don’t understand why they get taken so seriously. They are useful to gauge if you’ve maybe pushed things a bit too far. Although I’m waaaay more fearful of a The Cholula Kid disapproving message than a downvote (I like TCK, but he’s scary!)

I don’t really mind if they anonymous or not, I always own up when I give one. Though I did think it strange at the beginning that they would be anonymous when upvoting isn’t.
