The season is done and dusted. Record Premier League placing and points achieved, and unlike last season, we don’t seem to have the spectre of multiple, simultaneous departures in the background. RK has done much to steady the ship, not least with his statement that he intends to see out his contract at Southampton.
Personally, I’m prepared to see one or two, perhaps even two or three, players leave, but I’d be surprised to see anything like the exodus of last year. There’s also a good chance we’re going to be bringing players in. We’re linked with a number of players at the moment. Janmaat and Austin have both been mentioned lately,
Much is going to depend on the result of the FA Cup final, but what do you want out of the close season?
Think a lot depends on Morgon staying or going, he’s going to be a hard replacement. And I don’t fancy Austin, as I’m hopeful that Jay Rod and Pelle will be potent (with him doing a bit of a Lambert for Jay Rod).
Been a bit disappointed with Tadic at times & Elia hasn’t quite done it. So yeah, I guess I’d quite like to see more options in the midfield.
All sounds good to me Doc Rednob. I feel there is a lot of dead wood on the fringes of the squad too though. Reed is way too ginger. Sell him to Celtic. 40p.
My only worry is we might not be able to sell as many players as we would like. The board did a v.good job last summer, and were rightly lauded for it, but even they didn’t managed to sell as many players as they hoped. I.e. note how they had to cancel the sales of Morgan and Jay Rod at the last minute, cos of fan uprising.
Hoefully, the fans will be a bit more patient this year and let them get on with it. The board have earned our trust. COYS.
Certainly the board have got a big job to do, but I think there is plenty of opportunity. There are a lot of teams, even in the Premier League, who do not yet have even a single Saints player. Some v.rich clubs too, like i.e. Man City and i.e. Chelsea, so we should be able to get some good transfer fees IMO if we play our cards right.
I fear you may be right, Bear. While Morgan looks like he is going to play ball and leave us for a bigger club, Nathaniel Clyne was heard to remark that Saints are pushing up and heard to ask why Saints couldn’t be a top team.
Look at the poor bastard, thinking he can fulfil footballing dreams through the prism of Southampton FC. And like you say, a real risk to our “sell everyone” plan. I know he might be England’s right back but that stuff is delusional, and needs to be sorted out if we’re to have the big bucks* rolling in.
For real? If the likes of Clyne try to fuck up our transfer window with selfish desire to stay, then i will boo the ungrateful cunt every game next season
