Southampton vs Palace match thread

I’m sticking my neck on the line for this one. Palace have dumped us out of all sorts of cup competitions recently. FA Cup runners up last year, they’re a very decent cup team, home and away.

Tired of going out to these buggers. Saints need to organise a cup dumping. Will they achieve it?

…oh, CUP dumping. Sorry, misread that…

I’m not sure this game has fully captured the imagination of the public…

I believe I am taking a TUE on going to this one…

3 hopes for this

No hope. Bob Hope & Envelope.

Give McCarthy Reed Isgrove & Stephen’s a game.

Better now against a bogey team than when we get an injury / suspension crisis.

But gotta stick with Cuco in the false #9 role

There are a few worries for me.

First, Palarse scored three goals from set pieces at the weekend, rendering their game over as a contest once they’d score first two. Next, it’s a Wednesday. These never work out for me due to unwittingly angering a not-so-defunct Norse god that one time. Finally, that hoodoo.

We will do well to proceed.

We’re going to get our arses handed to us on a platter, simple as.

Presumably McCarthy / Yoshi / Cuco / Targett will start. Who else? Is J-Rod fit?

Would be nice to have a run in any cup competition. We’re there, even though it’s a long drive on a school night…

According to the BBC’s preview, J-Rod picked up an injury in the last game and won’t be available for selection.

However, this is the BBC, which has been on a dreadful run of form of late.

That could just as easily mean:-

J-Rod will be in the starting line-up, restyled as a T-800 from the Terminator movies. Anyone called Sarah or John Connor is encouraged not to attend.

"Listen.

Understand.

That J-Rod-800 is out there.

It can’t be reasoned with, it can’t be bargained with… it doesn’t feel pity of remorse or fear… and it absolutely will not stop.

Ever.

Until he pokes the ball under Wayne Hennessy for his hat-trick"

Unfortunelty a cup compitition that we tend to have a reasonable run in, is one we could do without this season. Would not be to bothered if we go out. It will be for the good of the rest of the season.

Main priority league, then Europa!

Is there a Europa spot for winning the Rumbelows Cup?

It’s The EFL Cup now … English Football League Cup? No Sponsors? Who knows who cares … it’s The League Cup.

Yes there is a Europa Cup place at stake, entry level 3rd Qualifying Round. It baffles me why so few teams take this Cup seriously. Due to us being in Europe we enter at 3rd stage and would only have to win 5 games, quite possibly against teams playing reserves, and we’d be guaranteed Europe again next season … what’s not to like? OK semi is home and away, but win one and draw one job done! Unfortunately for us I reckon Palarse are one of the few teams who will take it seriously!! Lets face it finishing in the Top 6 this year is likely to be too much of an ask, so lets go balls out for the easiest option.

We have a big enough squad to put out a decent line up and rest a few. A day out at Wembley wouldn’t be too shabby either.

As long as Cuco starts as a false #9 then we’ll be fine, eh D_P?

I fancy us to win this. I also think that Redmond will get a couple. Now it is time for my afternoon nap.

Any team news yet?

Clot Pool will put out a team of Saints players, probably not the players that most people will be expecting.

He will be roundly castigated for this and will be on a hiding to nothing whatever the result.

Great pricing on this, yet I’m still expecting a very poor attendance. Shame really, since so many fans evidently have the cash to do the Milan trip.

Not that I’d suggest any of our number are more bothered about the opposition than watching Saints. Oh no.

A few reasons why there will be a low turn out …

  1. Oh fuck me … not fucking Palarse again … fuck that for a game of soldiers

  2. 3 home games in 6 days, even though decent pricing for Europa and Palace, add in transport, food and booze … it all adds up, and it’s a school night

  3. Lots of dosh has been flying out of peoples bank accounts to pay for Europa Home Bundles and Europa away games.

Hope the players still manage to put on a good show for the hardy few.
