There has been discussion about the number of points we’ve all got recently. Like many, I have been flabbergasted to have sat at the top of the leaderboard for so long. Today, I found out why. Turns out that we’ve been handing out points to people simply for posting. One point a go. This is why I’m at the top of the leaderboards, and not really something we can continue with.
I don’t want to reward one line posts, but right now, they are worth as much as a vote. That can’t be right. If Batman knew about this he’d be over here in a flash, and would rule over us all.
I do want to reward excellent stuff that gets a load of votes.
I have already turned off “1 point for a new post”. In the next couple of hours, and at much cost to my own personal standing on this site, I’ll be changing people’s points totals so that they are based on votes only.
Right, I’ve changed the system so that up votes are worth two points. If you neg someone, they’ll lose one point. No points are awarded for merely posting; all and any points that were given out for that have been zeroed. The big points bonuses you get for joining up are unaffected.
All hail Bearsy, rightful leader of the leaderboard!
Of course, the really interesting thing is that bletch’s big scientific experiment looks even sillier now. Post count, dear boy! That’s what drove Lou’s numbers up. We were handing zero points out for upvotes (retroactively fixed now) so I think the butler owes the entire house an apology. Also, please get that convoy of Kleenex trucks to turn around. They won’t be needed.
Well I for one am pleased with the recalculated standings. Bearsy definitely deserves to be top, and it is super amusing that bletch winds up second after his vote-inspired experiments! Seriously though, both have written a lot of good shit here, so I’m entirely unsurprised to see the chips fall like this.
Personally, I think Bearsy has earned the right to be on top, underneath, or even sideways spooning with some sneaky penetration. He can pretty much diddle this forum any way he choses and we will all roll over and ask for more.
Sometimes though, I do wonder if he would make a good rug for in front of the fireplace.
