Tea!

A nice mug of Thompsons Punjana, Clipper or Dorset Tea for me, just need someone to make me one so I don’t have to get out of bed!…what gets you going in the morning?, tea or coffee?..Percol Columbian coffee if the mood takes me.

Have never got on with tea. Double shot cappuccino if I’m out.

AeroPress espresso with freshly ground, overpriced but delicious Has Bean coffee if I’m at home.

Cannot get my brain in motion until I have had a Costa. Just walk around like a zombie until then! I have a tassimo machine, which is nice and easy to get my coffee. (Bloody expensive though)

I drink mostly tea during the day/evening, but the early part of the day, it is coffee all the way.

tea of choice - Tetley.

The usual; two spoons of instant coffee. One spoon sugar, milk in first.

However, I’ll drink tea all day in my mum’s house. Water is better for it down South, I reckon.

Coffee. Stronger the better. Two or three cups in the morning.

Tea occasionally to break up the monotony of coffee and hard liquor.

When in 'ampshire it’s just a teaspoon of instant, hot water first (to dissolve the granules better) and then add milk. When in the land of sun and soccer (heathens) it’s a flat white when drinking out, or my version which is 2/3rds milk heated in the microwave (no sign of the 2nd head appearing yet from all those oscillating atoms morphing into some unknown compound) and then a pod from one of these new-fangled coffee machines that are all the rage down here.

Tea first thing - preferably Yorkshire Tea. Can’t drink coffee until I’ve had at least one cuppa. A friend of ours owns this company for those that like to try something different. http://www.jollybrew.com/tea/

I hate to sound poncy but: Earl Grey, Lady Grey or Camomile. I drink a lot of tea. I even have a little teapot at work.

Can’t drink coffee in the morning as it makes my heart race. Can’t drink any caffeine after about 6pm otherwise I’m awake all night.

Yes, if you don’t me saying, that does sound a little poncy, Lou

Sorry! I bloody love my tea rituals though.

Have you ever been to Japan, Lou?

The Japanese take their tea rituals to a whole new level. I’ve no idea if Tokes subscribes to such things, but if he does then you and him should take tea together.

I haven’t been to Japan, but I should do!

I think if Tokes and I took tea together it would be the opposite of a serene and calming ritual.

I was right with you on your journey smiler, even through your attempt to get the milk to about 77 degrees C in the waveymike, but then you went and spoiled it all by saying something stupid like nespresso!

 *

Our paths diverge at that point smiler, I’ve got a bean to cup machine, and I’m currently using some fair trade beans from a small coffee chain called Coffee #1. I’m enjoying one right now in fact.

Lovely.

That said, with Irish parents, I always start the day with a cup of tea.

Unless I have to do siomething stupid like visit a customer in London (which normally necessitates a train from Havant at 7am) I always make a pot of tea for myself and my ever-loving wife every morning. Waitrose Assam loose-leaf tea, made in a china pot.

I would be with you on the beans to cup machine saintbletch, but I fear that technology such as that has not yet reached the mass market in the colonies (or if it has, then it’s in one of those fancy shops and with a price tag out of my reach for now - unless I put next year’s plans to return for the Europa cup final on hold).

if you can give me some machine recommendations I will certainly look out for them, though  - but in the mean time I will just have to make do with the cheap and cheerful pod machines. The last one I got free with 6 boxes of pods (96 pods for $50) so I have a feeling it won’t be around for much longer than its 12 month warranty.

Coffee for me first thing preferably with a Rum in it.

The last time I drank tea was in a Mongolian restaurant in Philidelphia about 20 years ago when it came free with the meal me being a tight wad was not going to give it back and pay for a coffee

Tea wise - Assam, Moroccan mint, lemon and ginger (great for hangovers)

coffee - bean to cup machine, and I buy my beans from this lot www.hasbean.co.uk

I know this is a place of love but is it becoming Mumsnet?

whiskey for me

Just my luck!, I bought a Breville coffee express maker on Thursday for £29.99…In Dunelm today they were in the sale for £14.99 OUCH!

Ignore my snobbery Smiler, my son’s girlfriend and family are Italian, and they love their coffee and swear by their pod machine.

But what do the Italian’s know about espresso?

I’ve had 2 DeLonghi coffee machines over the past 7-8 years and the really are excellent.

My current machine is an ESAM 04.110.S Magnifica I picked it up for about £200 on HotDeals UK (RRP £349). This now seems to have been replaced by a more recent model the ESAM 4200 which is £250 on Amazon.

If you find yourself able to justify that spend for your addiction, don’t hesitate. Just do it.
