Arsenal youngster Nathan Tella moves to Southampton after trial spell

Show/hide article…

Arsenal teenager Nathan Tella has said he is joining Southampton after a decade at the North London club.

Tella, 17, has signed for the club after playing for the under-18s on trial against Leicester earlier this month.

The winger wrote on his Instagram page: "After a great 10 years at Arsenal, sadly I have to move on to a new challenge.

"Thank you everyone who has helped me over the past 10 years to make into the player I am.

“I will miss the boys and hope they all have a great career. However, I am delighted to sign with Southampton and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me at this club.”

Well there’s a turnaround, it wasn’t so long ago Arsenal were pinching the best of our young talent.

So will this new fella Tella play up front with Olufela?

Looks very pleased to have signed for us. Won’t be the most vocal player on the pitch though, I’m guessing.

Nutella?

Obligatory niceties aside, you’ve got to wonder at what was going through the nipper’s head.

There’s the obvious, that he thought there were too many people ahead of him and that he simply wants a clearer path.

However, he may have looked at the careers of The Ox and Walcott and thought “the Arsenal is not going to develop me as much as Saints”.

It’s not that Arsenal ruin young players. They just guide them onto the path of consistent mediocrity.

What’s the tale behind Tells?

Looks promising :lou_smiley:

Not to mention Chambers, who went downhill fast after his move to the Arse.

I thought he was released by arsenal. He didn’t leave of his own choice from what i read.

Nothing to worry about though, it’s just another chance for us to show the rest how to develop players.

I’m always baffled that clubs give up on young talent so easily, when any parent could tell them that teenagers are completely unpredictable in everything they do. Very few develop at an even and predictable rate. Thankfully we as a club seem to understand that.

So, i’m expecting us to sell him back to arsenal in 4-6 years for £50-£100m(i haven’t allowed for inflation).

Oh, almost forgot, he helps us get our first visit(but not last) to the champions league knock out stage before he goes, which is nice. :lou_lol:

Has just signed new 3.5 year contract. Good news.

He’s now got 2 years to meet the targets in the above post. :grinning:
