Terraces making a comeback?

Was interested to see Celtic have opened a safe standing section at Parkhead, and gives me a glimmer of hope that we might see a return to standing sections in top flight footy. I know the rules are a bit different north of the border, but if it can be proved to be safe there then why not here too? Personally I would like to see it return, as I have fond memories of standing in the Milton Road end as a nipper and think it would help boost the atmosphere at games, and maybe allow for increased capacities without the need for massive redevelopment. Anyone else want a return to terraced sections?

Don’t see why not. Always stand at away games anyway.

Hope so, so so much, it will bring back the atmosphere that is so important to the game.

I’ve mixed views on standing. Hated the idea of all seater stadiums when 1st implimented but I’m at the age now where I’m happy for a sit down :lou_facepalm_2:

Also I’m not sure if I would like my kids standing in crowds the way it used to be. Although I’m well aware times have moved on and it will be better regulated. Perhaps once I’ve seen it working else where again my mind will be put at ease.

You would have a fold up seat with a number allocated, nothing like it used to be, as safe if not safer than seating as people fall over them or off them.

Excuse my ignorance then but I take it that’s exactly like the seats we have now that fold up. Just standing would be permitted in certain areas. Or are the seats completely different ?

Don’t think that would work…folding seat would be a hazard in itself…don’t like that idea. Current seating is easily removed…just bolted in. You’d need barriers seperating the rows.

They have it in the Bundesliga.

Not unless ticket prices are cut too.

Why? You’re paying for the same space and designated position, you must be a right hoot at Christmas parties…

You are such a fucking din at times.

The kind of people that generated the atmosphere at football were the ones who were priced out. Drop prices and you might get them back (whether the Premier League want them back is another matter)

You’re such a naive dinlo to believe that will ever happen son, (lower prices) you’re soft you have to be honestly.

Er…I don’t.

Good lets move on and shag a horse.

I’m all in favour of introducing “safe standing” areas into English stadia. (Notice I used the correct plural there?). The atmosphere at German games is so much better because of this. Surely, if the sweaties can do do it successfully (yet to be proved) there should be absolutely no reason for the English not to follow suit.

As pointed out on the FSF the clubs have a duty of care towards their supporters and where there are currently thousands of fans each week standing in seating areas, which is inappropriate, a rethink is required to ensure that the fans that are compelled to stand are afforded some degree of protection. Also, this could actually generate more revenue if priced accordingly.

Good to have you back UH.

Hmm, disagree that safe standing is the sole reason. More to do with the pricing and the fact that the more, shall we say, out going supporters can afford to go to games.

Also aren’t a lot of the chants orchestrated by a “fan” standing at the front telling people what to chant??

On this type of thread maybe, let’s keep him away from the Bazzer threads though…
