The 2016 SO5 dead hard 100% Saints prize Christmas quiz!

Greetings fellow Sotonians from a Mexican beach. I really hope that it’s not cold or raining back there…

I’ve found that I need something else to do here apart from order margaritas - and no doubt you’ll all need something to do over the next few days apart from talk to the family. So I’ve done you all a little quiz

Yes, I know we’ve already got a quiz thread, but it’s all general football or general sport, this one is all about the mighty SFC

And, considering it’s Christmas I’m going to offer a PRIZE (although you’ll have to attend a Sotonians drink to claim it) Either:

1 - a burger at the Rockstone (Think entire cow, in a bun, with chips and salad)

2- a pizza at the Stable, or

3 - the equivalent in beer, wine or spirits - for those of you with a largely liquid diet

Apologies to younger Sotonians, but some of the questions may relate to events before you were born. It’s not fair I agree. But hey - at least young women don’t see you as avuncular…(or female equivalent)

Please feel free to use Google. For at least half the questions it won’t help you much

I’ll post the answers and winner on Dec 30, before the West Brom game the next day

And the questions will follow imminently…

**Most important - DON’T POST YOUR ANSWERS ON THIS THREAD JUST PM ME INSTEAD - ** otherwise there’d be an advantage in answering as late as possible. Strictly exam conditions for the SO5 quiz

So - twelve questions:

1 - Apart from the 1976 FA Cup final, what is the game with the largest crowd to witness a Saints victory? (2 points - opponents, season)

2 - Where did Ricky Lambert score his 100th league goal for Saints? (Clue - not St.Mary’s. 2 points for opponent/ground and season)

3 - Who, in 2003-04, was the first player to represent Scotland in a full international while a Saints player since 1948? (1 point)

4 - Who has made most substitute appearances for SFC in league football? (1 point)

5 - How many managers did Saints have in each of the 1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s/2010s (so far)? (Permanent appointments only, so not Dave Bassett, Denis Wise, Jason Dodd etc. 5 points)

6 - How many goalkeepers have made more appearances for SFC than Kelvin Davis? A) Postwar and B) ever? (2 points)

7 - In how many of the 90 seasons we’ve played since joining the Football League in 1920 have we shared a division with our fishy friends down the M27? (2 points if exactly right, 1 if out by one)

8 - Our best season was 1983-84, coming second in the league and losing in the FA cup semi-final (sob). But the team did win a trophy that season - what was it? (1 point)

9 - Two members of the 1976 cup winning team also made appearances at Wembley ten years earlier - who, and in what capacity? (4 points)

10 - In European competitions (sob again) Saints have played 17 clubs from 16 countries - what’s the country where we’ve played two of their clubs? (2 points - country; and both clubs)

11 - In the sleeve notes for the Artful Dodger album ‘It’s All About the Stragglers’ which two Saints players are named in the ‘thanks to…’ list? (2 points - wouldn’t recommend buying the album to find out)

12 - finally, one to really separate the old lags from the rest - what was 1970s goalkeeper Eric Martin’s pre-kick-off routine, practiced in front of the Milton Road end at the Dell, towards the West Stand? (Only 1 point, sadly)

That’s it remember PM me not post on the thread - happy Xmas

He’s even included SO5’s emboldened instruction not to post the answers in the thread.

That went well then

were the answers corrrect ?

I hope not

:lou_facepalm_2:

Pillock

:lou_lol:

The answer to question 12 had better be wrong, although it was the 70’s so who knows and 9 is quite amusing.

Oops … seemed to have up voted and down voted you in the swoop of a thumb. Down vote completely unintentional. Hope it doesn’t spoil your Christmas (anymore than SWP has already)

Poor old SO5, must have taken him ages to put that together. Good quiz tho with some tough questions, shame it’s lifespan was only an hour in the middle of the night.

Valiant effort tho. :lou_lol:

Don’t worry Steve…in the true spirit of Christmas I’ve selflessly sacrificed my upvoting of Fatso to register a proxy upvote for you to cancel out your careless downvote. Happy upvoting one and all.

I the true spirit of SWDP his answers were daft anyway.

I think Mr Dove-Piss’s efforts were a joke and were taken as such. Entirely accidentally though he scored two I think, so is currently in the lead. Please don’t make me have to buy him beer - as he’s probably under age. I could get kiddie portions for the food though

This didn’t take that long to put together actually - I never really think about much else. Sad, isn’t it? Give it a few years and I’ll remember the scorers in the FA Cup replay against Bolton in 1992 but not the names of my kids…

oh, were the answers a joke? I didn’t read them.
