The Down Under ODI Series we'd all forgotten about

Roy now holds the record for highest ever ODI score by an ‘Englishman’.

Beating Alex Hales’ 171.

Tye to Roy, 1 run, fewer bothers middling his drives though, another wristy tonk into the covers

He’s having a few bothers gripping the bat at the moment…

Tye to Root, 1 run, nudged off the legs

Roy slipped while turning and seems to have jarred his wrist… hmm… Hopefully it’ll ease off, but he’s taken his glove off

Roy is out for 180.

Starc to Roy, OUT , short, pulled, top-edged, gone! The end of a triumphant innings from Roy, the MCG rises as one to a brilliant performance. A bit of a tired ending, went for the big humpty over the leg side, but ended up with a lobbed chance to backward square. But what a statement innings from a resurgent one-day team!

JJ Roy c sub (JA Richardson) b Starc 180 (151b 16x4 5x6) SR: 119.20

Morgan out for 1.

Lol.

I hate being almost right all the time

Buttler out for 4.

3 runs short of the victory.

Lol.

Lol at the comeback on this comment

Chris: “Here again proof why England will never be number side in any format, this game should been done by now. But No, not with England, they’ll go back to the tried and true nature of the English cricketer and dink and donk alongand then all of a sudden they run rate creeps up, which in effect makes the English cricketer panic and lose his wicket and then for the supporter it’s the all to familiar stressful ending yet again.”

Are you seriously saying that a national-record innings and a highest run-chase at the MCG isn’t good enough for you? Some people…

It’s amazing that, because I don’t have BT sport, I didn’t know that this series was being played.

Woke up this morning to see us comfortably ahead.

Good result in context of the recent humiliation…

When is the next match?

Friday. Brisbane 03:20 GMT start.

Spinners restrict Aus to 270 great spell by Root.

Roy out early Hales just out for 50 odd having put on 100 with Bairstow.

Ahead of run rate Aussies may not have enough spinners…

Another England win in the series, won by 4 wickets. Woakes getting the final runs preventing Root getting his 50.

Luckily we have an Aussie back on board to wind up in the morning.

Sydney pitch has helped the Aussie pace attack (3 quicks selected) and England have got off to a wonky start all the batsmen excet Hales have got a statrt and then out in the 30’s

Which is the score Morgan is on and Buttler is fast approaching.

149/4 off 30 overs at just under 5 an over.

Looks like it could be tighter and finally a test to see how well England play when having to set a score batting first

Here’s John Ide: “Aus need 2 more overs from the Stoinis/Marsh duo, then 3 more from A.Zampa. After that its all M.Starc, J.Hazelwood and P.Cummins to close out the innings. Buttler and Morgan will have to bat out of their skins to get past 260.”

172-5

Hazlewood to Morgan, OUT , gottim! Morgan tries to open the face but ends up gliding an edge to the keeper! Hazlewood makes the breakthrough, just as England were starting to look fluent again. Used the angle across Morgan, who played pretty well but is still searching for a major contribution

EJG Morgan c †Paine b Hazlewood 41 (50b 2x4 1x6) SR: 82.00

244-6 off 45.4 overs.

Really comes down to how Buttler and Woakes finish the innings off now. He’s on 67 Woakes on 36

Record run chase at SCG is 334, but the ESPN guys are saying it is NOt that sort of pitch and Aussies will want to keep us below 250.

9 balls left Buttler on strike on 86 can he do it?
