The Mackems v The Saints Match Thread

Hahahahahaha :lou_lol:

They’re called the Black Cats now.

Turned out to be really lucky for them :lou_lol:

Yay, bought my tickets today for me, my son and 5 others! Looking forward to seeing my first match here. I have had a stadium tour on March 14th 1999, the day I went to see Saints lose 3-0 at Boro. On the Saturday I watched a Sunderland team at Grimsby win 0-2, which was the season they walked league division 1.

I had player connections (or did have at Sunderland) in the mid to late 90’s.

Just in case anyone missed it… :lou_angry:

Well we have not won there since 2003, this will be the 7th attempt since then. We tend to draw a lot, but think we will win this 1-3.

They are ok going forward, but at the back a shambles. Big Sam will sort that out in January!

Hoping we can beat the trend on this one. Big Vic will be a big miss, but Romeu and Clasie will be decent enough against Sunderland, I reckon. Our recent goals have been some smart stuff, involving a lot of what we’re good at.

Yoshida to start chasing Vardy for consecutive goals? (arf!)

Yosh needs to start again as he did not score against Bouremouth!

I have to say I have been worried about our performance in our last 2 home league games in the 2nd half. This was something that RK acknowledged at the end of the Bouremouth gam, saying that after the second half against Leicester we had to change something. The only problem here, is that I did not see any change at all between the 2 apart from one of the teams we played had a striker! The performance from the team in both the 2nd half of these games was well below par.

Away from home in the last 2 league games we were better against Liverpool and outstanding against Chelsea, so not sure why there is such a contrast in our half’s and in the home and away games.

One thing is for sure today’s game will be very different to the last 2 away games, as I think Sunderland will get stuck in and attack us and they do have players who know where the goal is. This coupled with our terrible recorded for not being able to beat them on their own patch, could be in the back of the players minds, as it all becomes psychological. But on the flip side we are on a very good run and I cannot see big Sam sorting out their defence until the transfer window. If they attack us then I think we will pick them off for a handsome score line. If they get bodies behind the ball the could make it hard to break them down.

A nice early goal will make the locals restless and could work to our advantage, but if they take the lead, it could be a very long 90 minutes, plus stoppage time.

Looking forward to it though.

I predict a 1-3 if we nab an early lead

1-1 if Sunderland get in front, with us levelling late on.

If no one scores, I predict a 0-0 :lou_facepalm_2:

Also today’s game is going to confuse the fuck out of my 3 year old, as he knows us as nothing else than red and white stripes. I have been explaining to him that we are going to be wearing green today, but I do not think he is going to get it.

This of course should be the least of my worries as it is his first game, then next generation of Saints fan. He will want to go to the toilet after 5 minutes I’m sure and only be interested in the hot dogs and sweets and then continue to ask how long is left after 10 minutes of the game, when all the food has run out, then continue you move around his seat.

I have taken my other 2 daughters to football when they were the same age and I remember my youngest at Wigan a couple of years back, just staring at me with shock, after I just celebrated our 2nd against Wingan, by going nuts only for her to be thinking, my god, is that really my dad… Mentalist!

Stekelenburg, Yoshida, Fonte, van Dijk, Bertrand, Ward-Prowse, Clasie, S Davis, Tadić, Mané, Pellè

Probably our most attacking line-up apart from Yoshi over Cedric. Is he injured?

Nope - on the bench.

@SouthamptonFC: #SaintsFC boss @RonaldKoeman has been explaining why @MayaYoshida3 starts this afternoon against #SAFC.
