The quote function (quotes within quotes)

Pap, can anything be done about quoting, where quoting someone only quotes their post and it strips out the previous quote inside their quote.

People are quoting and there’s two, three, four quotes within their quote. If viewing by mobile this means you’ve got to scroll down and down and down just to get to the new text.

Cheers.

I always tidy mine up + delete the quote chain, because I am considerate poster, but yeah something needs to be done because all the other cunts on here are v.lazy + non-considerate. Cunts.

Sorry bout all the fucking swearing.

I dunno, sometimes the quotes within the quotes makes it easy to read a chain of posts if you’re late coming to a thread…

Can sometimes get confusing i.e. when it drifts off point. Did you see Strictly at the weekend omg?

I do too because I worry about pap running up a massive ‘Internet ink’ bill. This isn’t FiverWeb.

Yeah I get that, but to be fair, the previous posts are just up a bit in the conversation.

It’s not so bad with short posts, but as an example, below is a screenshot from a thread, Sadoldgit has been quoted 3 times, and it means on my phone the text in his posts only fits 1 or 2 words on a line. ok I could turn my phone on it’s side and view it landscape, but I’d prefer to keep it as per everything else I look at via my phone.

I too like to think of myself as a considerate poster, but trying to delete rows and rows of another long winded Bearsy message when you just want to quote one sentence, is a pain in the arse on an iPad or iPhone, particularly when it deletes the whole lot and you have to start again…

So sometimes I don’t do it and hope no one has noticed…

That’s your fault for having an Andorid phone, an Apple would do it for you…

That’s your fault for having an Apple, an Android based device would do it for you if you rooted it and then got some piece of dodgy third-party software and turned off the unknown publisher setting…

:lou_smiley: It’s a fine balance between tapping delete loads of times and deleting letter by letter, or keeping your finger pressed and watching it get close to where you want it to stop, but then suddenly it shoots back and you’re too late…[siiiiiigh]

Ignore this post

My iPad is driving me nuts at the moment. Since the recent OS upgrade, it now automatically selects a chunk of text you’ve just typed, if you type too fast, and then deletes it. I’m ready to throw the damn thing out the window!!

Does the iPhone not have the ability to select blocks of text? On Android you long-press anywhere in a section of text, then drag the handles to the start and finish of what you want to select (then either delete, cut, copy or whatever).

Yeah, but if the message is longer than your screen, it’s really hard to do without having to start again!

Just stop quoting people.

Yeah, but then how do you know who I’m answering?

I think quoting someone is fine, it’s just when their post already contains several other peoples comments.

Hence, if the forum had some sort of default that only quoted the one person (maybe people could then manually quote additional people if they want) I’m sure this has come up on a forum in the past, can’t recall where though.

What?
