Woo hoo!

Bump. Been catching up with Gotham, season three. Itā€™s still not something Iā€™d be comfy shouting up as excellent TV, but I enjoy it. That itā€™s batshit crazy is one of its saving graces. I think the art direction is pretty decent. Gotham is depicted in mostly dark tones, in large buildings with tall ceilings.

I do think theyā€™re going to have to recast Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle pretty soon, if neither of them get any taller. Theyā€™re both short-arses, theyā€™re supposed to be sixteen in this season, and much as it might impress the short half of the nation, we canā€™t have a shortarse Batman.

I really like gotham, the batshit crazy bit is one of the reasons I like it so much, itā€™s so over the top and melodramatic but at the same time a bit silly that reminds me of the feel of the Adam West version only this one has (at times) Tarantino levels of violence.

Also agree that a recast of Bruce Wayne is required but more because I find the lad that plays him incredibly annoying and unbelievable as a future badass.

I remember watching season one and thinking it was quite mental. It had the claret, even back then. Now, season one seems like a comparatively straight laced affair. They amped everything up big style in season two, and from what Iā€™ve seen of season three, have held fiercely to that principle.

One of the reasons that I reckon the show works _without _Batman is because the villains have always been more interesting than the hero. Batman essentially plays straight man to a load of comedic supervillains, and itā€™s easy enough to put other actors in the straight man role, and thatā€™s basically what the show does with anyone in authority.

Itā€™s actually the authority characters that let this show down. Gordon is very good, but his partner, while likable, is a classic trope, and most of the time, people are just whacking out professional phrases youā€™ve heard a thousand times before in other shows.

The general rules, or lack of them, seem absurd too. I genuinely thought that the show had hoodwinked us on Jerome in season two, but nope. _Thatā€™s _possible, and I should have known.

I recently watched the episode where Jerome takes over the fairground. Fucking fantastic. Kidnapped citizens set up to be targets in all sorts of warped fairground games. My favourite was the one where people popped their heads out of holes to get whacked with a mallet.

I canā€™t recommend it wholeheartedly, but if you can deal with some crap dialogue from the cops, itā€™s a great B show to have around when youā€™ve nowt else to watch.

Lost in Space - Iā€™m only on Ep1 but kids are on Ep5 and are enjoying it in the it isnā€™ shit category AND has a decent twist

It said ā€œDanger Will Robinsonā€, I got all goose pimply :lou_lol:

What channel @btripz ?

Couldnā€™t find it on Netflix last night. I was a bit pished tbf and had to look out of one eye so I didnā€™t see two screensā€¦

Way better than I expected. Added to the C_S family must watch list.

only annoyance is the Muzak - more suited to a big budget film in the cinema. Probably just me.

Do they chop your hands off for torrenting there, Phil?

Just your remote finger @pap

Iā€™ll watch eps 2&3 then give you my considered opinionā€¦

VPN for personal use is illegal. Ā£10k fine & jail.

Also using illegal streams is not a good career choice for someone planning to get back to a C-level job in IT in next few months.

So discretionā€¦

Lost in Spce seems to be silently getting all my mates hooked. Mrs D_P was sceptical but now hooked.

Episode 6.

Noooooo

The five episodes of the new season of the Expanse have been very good. For a show that is set just in our solar system, it gets around. Some locations have been completely taken out. Iā€™ve just finished watching episode, and itā€™s a tour de force, tense and full of holy fuck moments.

EDIT : Boo, appears to be cancelled. The production company are shopping around for another network though.

Sy Fy played hardball thinking they had the Golden Goose, so restricted the relaunch of S3.

Netflix or someone will no doubt come along - similar happened with Brooklyn 99

Well, the good news is that The Expanse will be returning, on Amazon Prime. Bluffed called there, Sy Fy. You can get back to making those ridiculous B movies now.

In other news, Iā€™ve things to report. Preacher season three is out, and I still love it. It has got some of the best world building on TV right now, which is surprising when you consider that most of the action takes place in small US towns. Thing is, some of the action takes place in much more interesting locales, such as Heaven or Hell. God and Satan both turn up in the show, as does Hitler (still up to his old tricks) and Tom Cruise (before immediately exploding).

I also watched Cloak and Dagger, which turned out to be a lot better than expected. It benefits a lot from a smaller scale approach which focuses on the origins and the relationship of the eponymous pairing. Both were traumatised at the same place, on the same night through the death of important loved ones during a rig malfunction. They also both got powers that same night. Dagger can read peopleā€™s hopes and create indestructible glowing light daggers that she bungs at people. Cloak can read peopleā€™s fears. Itā€™s an interesting dynamic and quite a tender platonic relationship played out on-screen.

Both on Amazon Prime.
