Yep that is correctā€¦ unlike wine Whisky does not change in the bottle. However, you do see prices increase for very good stuff as it becomes rarerā€¦ especially since many distilaries are no longer producing to the same quality as they did 20/30 years ago. My 1979 distilled/1995 bottled 16 year old distillers edition Lagavulin was Ā£47 in 1995. An unopened, boxed bottle can be found for Ā£1400 todayā€¦ mainly because its rare and it was consider bloody goodā€¦ which is very true  sadly i only have a quarter bottle left so its in effect Ā£100 a dram now so I feel guilty even ooking at it

Drink it and fuck the consequenses enjoy the fact that you bought a very good bottle then drunk it.

I only have one rule about drinking whiskyā€¦ and its not about what its worth or cost, but I never drink it aloneā€¦ that is an easy way to ruinā€¦ only with pleasent company who apprecites it. The guilt is because Idont wantto share it! :lou_lol:

Iā€™m the opposite, I appreciate it late of an evening, watching something good on TV, alone.

Double measure. Three ice cubes. Bliss.

My father-in-law spent the weekend at our place.

I just gave someone a Glenlivet and asked if they would like any ice.

They said no ice but do you have any sprite to put in it.

He was lucky the base of the bottle did not reverberate of his skull.

I know this problem.

Every time I take the Singapore office out for dinner, I ask who wants wine. I then have to ask of those who want wine, who is going to pour cola into it. Those who put their hands up get a glass of house red, and I keep the good stuff for the for, well, me.

Should be OK, but these no-aged statement whiskies are often only produced for the travel
Retail Sector. Often the ā€˜special casksā€™ in question have not turned out so good so are in effect blended with other cask styles/ages from the same distillery (so still a single malt) to crest something worthy of selling as opposed of shipping off the casks to the blended whisky companiesā€¦

Best advice is to try and find stuff that is

a) non-chill filtered - chill filtering does remove some of the complexity of taste and is done so that it does not go cloudy when Americans stick ice in it

b) Has no added colour - many whiskies have added colouring (caramel) to produce a darker colour as consumers seem to think it must be better if darker - this is wrong. The natural colour will come from the type of cask and the length it spent in itā€¦

c) Has an age statement - which represents ten age of the youngest cask included in the batch - this is more honest, and younger whiskies 8-12 year olds are often very good!

d) Is bottled at 46% vol plus - a small sign that they are not chucking it out at minimum 40% which legal requirement for Scotch Whiskyā€¦ means they care a bit more

e) When opening a new bottle leave it for a couple of hours to let it ā€˜open upā€™ / - little
Oxidation will bring be flavour out. However, the oxidation process as with wine will gradually deteriorate the flavourā€¦ so use a gas based preservative if you want to keep an open bottle for a number on months

f) when poured let it stand for the same number of minutes as itā€™s age before drinking

The same whisky will change from batch to batch as each cask is uniqueā€¦ the bigger brands like MacAllan will put maybe 50-100 casks together for each batch of 10year old to get a consistency in flavourā€¦ but for many itā€™s the changes that is the interesting bit

:tumbler_glass: enjoy!

PS. The non-aged statement releases are a relatively modern thing as the popularity of single Malts has gone through the roof - so basically everyone ran out of stockā€¦
