Point of order Sir Bath! (merely to correct some important facts -and to highlight a pendantry that takes over when it comes to the nectar of life)
When referring to Scotch, Its Whisky - no ‘e’ - those hairy arsed Oirish place an additioanl ‘e’ in their spelling…
Bells is not Whisky, its the toxic extract when you have filtered the ‘solid matter’ from a chemical toilet - do not utter its name again on this thread… Fatso is sailing close with his blended malt and grain Grouse… on a SINGLE MALT THREAD. Fucking Philis. You will have been offered Bells as you were English
Talisker - the ‘true’ 10 year old is a great malt, its the non-age labeled marketing led stuff with twattsh names, that the owners are flogging to make a ton of money whilst the popularity of the water of life is on a high, that get the evil eye from me… often charging £50-£80 for something that could have 3 year old casks contributing… In the words of wee jock McJock proprietor of local Whisky specialist shop, '‘its an abomination in the eyes of the lord’
Dalwhinnie is nae bad - good smooth 15 year old. I have a good half bottle of a 1980 distilled 95 bottled limited that is rather splendid
I think you’re talking about the tradition at christmas and new year where the riff raff get invited round the posh houses and are given a tot of cheap whiskey to help them get through the cold winter times.
Nope, but looks interesting. That site stocks a 1979 Lagavulin distillers edition for … £1400. I paid £47 for mine back when it was released in 1995. I have about a 1/4 of it left as its is stunning but had no ideathese were now now that expensive!! will work out about £100 a dram for what I have left!!
Your original post is an excellent choice. This is from the area my family originally hail from generations ago. I hope to get some over the weekend for the holidays.
On the pricier end the only ones I’ve tried (and absolutely loved) are the Suntory Hibiki 17 and Suntory Yamazaki 12; in my price range I generally get Nikka from the Barrel or the 12 year old as they’re often on offer in the Canary Wharf Waitrose, Suntory Toki or Suntory Hibiki Harmony.
If you like peat the Hakushu 12 is surprisingly Islay-ish from what I remember of a friend’s bottle
As if wisky can only be produced by The scotch (sic) and the Japanezers, Irish whiskey is harsh but fair and Welsh wisklly (spelt with two ll’s isn’t it) is not to be scoffed at!
Well the only one I’ve tried isn’t to be scoffed at anyway…
Not sure it was that pototo shit that made @saintbletch go blind mind…
But as master of this thread, I will note Bletch’s crimes against reading comprehension and store them away for time when he needs to be bettered… The clue is in the thread title SirBletchington de Manmount Smythe, '‘Single Malt’ - not your grain, blend, bourbon, welshsheeppiss, Oirish potato shirt collar starch malarky… I am sure that as any aristocrat fallen on hard times you have been forced to swallow many a foul liquid, but please for the sake of forum integrity, stay on topic sir- I appeal to your moral code!
