this one is good because you can drink it everyday apparently.

I’ve just had a bowl of Scotch Broth…

I think you’re talking about the tradition at christmas and new year where the riff raff get invited round the posh houses and are given a tot of cheap whiskey to help them get through the cold winter times.

I am feeling a little ill. Gentlemen, I may have to go an lie down for a while.

I was having a long, hard think about getting a bottle of this yesterday: https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/19641/mackmyra-brukswhisky

Any of you lot ever tried it?

Nope, but looks interesting. That site stocks a 1979 Lagavulin distillers edition for … £1400. I paid £47 for mine back when it was released in 1995. I have about a 1/4 of it left as its is stunning but had no ideathese were now now that expensive!! will work out about £100 a dram for what I have left!!

Ok, AG, you’ve got your way.

This will be the only thread we ever allow on malt.

If anyone tries to jip you off by starting a new one, be it on whisky, loaf or teasers, the mods will come down on them like a ton of bricks.

This is the Single Malt thread.

Your original post is an excellent choice. This is from the area my family originally hail from generations ago. I hope to get some over the weekend for the holidays.

We used to drink a lot of Nikka in Japan. Tokyo recommends…

It’s a blend but it is very good.

If you insist on a Malt… Not as nice imo but a Malt

Maybe. We were encouraged to doff our caps and tug our fore locks.

On the pricier end the only ones I’ve tried (and absolutely loved) are the Suntory Hibiki 17 and Suntory Yamazaki 12; in my price range I generally get Nikka from the Barrel or the 12 year old as they’re often on offer in the Canary Wharf Waitrose, Suntory Toki or Suntory Hibiki Harmony.

If you like peat the Hakushu 12 is surprisingly Islay-ish from what I remember of a friend’s bottle

All this closet racism turns my stomach.

As if wisky can only be produced by The scotch (sic) and the Japanezers, Irish whiskey is harsh but fair and Welsh wisklly (spelt with two ll’s isn’t it) is not to be scoffed at!

Well the only one I’ve tried isn’t to be scoffed at anyway…

Penderyn Red, I won’t lie to you but it’s lush.

Isn’t it?

:lou_surprised: What hideousnes is this?

Didn’t realise you’d tried it.

You must have tried it, right?

I mean if you’re dissing it, you’ve surely tried it.

Right?

Thought not.

It really is lush. Very mellow.

Isn’t it?

And while we’re trying to end whisk(e)(ll)y apartheid, this from my personal stash shouts “you can stick your single malt up yer b’kilted arse!”

Who would have thought that the humble spud could taste so foul and make you blind?

To be sure.

Lol, dumb bletch. As if the Welsh can make whisky. Next you will be saying the English can make it too.

Why would we break a sweat when we can keep our poor neighbours gainfully employed doing it for us? Dumb Tokes.

Not sure it was that pototo shit that made @saintbletch go blind mind…

But as master of this thread, I will note Bletch’s crimes against reading comprehension and store them away for time when he needs to be bettered… The clue is in the thread title SirBletchington de Manmount Smythe, '‘Single Malt’ - not your grain, blend, bourbon, welshsheeppiss, Oirish potato shirt collar starch malarky… I am sure that as any aristocrat fallen on hard times you have been forced to swallow many a foul liquid, but please for the sake of forum integrity, stay on topic sir- I appeal to your moral code!

@saintbletch didhe really use the word ‘lush’ in a describe a welsh abomination that does not evenqualify under the term ‘single malt’? ‘Lush’ ? Surely a word reserved for 14 year old ‘girls’ in rara skirts circa 1984 when describing the such classroom 'dudes’such as my 14 year old self…Ok more usualy teh guy who had a full beard by the time he was 13 and could beat up on teachers… Is this utterance the result of too much foreign liquid consumption?

Question

  • Why isn’t Penderyn a single malt whisklly(sic)? Genuine question as I assumed that because it has single malt on the bottle it must be a single malt. I’m guessing there’s some technicanallity(sic) that it fails?

Observation

  • Lush is an ancient Welch(sic) word for a particularly handsome dragon. I became familiar with it by watching Gavin and Stacey and chose it because I thought it might be humorous to use a Welch word to describe the taste of a Welch whisklly. I could have used Tidy, which is how welsh people describe neat neckwear, but I decided against it.

(didn’t we have a word-bore thread for mixed definitions - EDIT found it here.)

Gratuitous Pejorative
