This thread will upset you

Dear god…

You’ve been triggered

Sad thing is, I am not shocked. It is just the next logical step in our journey towards politically correct utopia.

The western world (especially the US and UK) really needs to drink a big glass of man-the-fuck-up

Is it a consequence of an increasing desire to sue for damages that providers of all sorts feel the need to issue warnings?

Personally I’m glad I didn’t see the animals in wigs. I’m only just out of the Slap-Head Clinic for the Bemusedly Bald.

Trigger warnings for people who are offended by their own fucking shadows??

Bollocks to that.

I’m guessing it must be normal but I have reached an age where I ask myself everyday, what the fuck is going on with this world??

Last night I saw drunk and drugged up street scum shouting abuse in the face of a WPC.

They should have been tasered into the middle of next week, beaten to the ground and locked up, but they were asked to be quiet.

Criminals don’t even get pursued anymore, courts are closing because the police can’t be arsed to chase anyone so no one needs to go to court.

If you don’t catch criminals and charge them you don’t have to spend money on prisons - it’s a mental approach but it looks like a deliberate policy.

Meanwhile we have every TV channel and newspaper pumping us PR for their own agendas 24-7.

They attack different political parties, often just making stuff up, depending on who they are in bed with that week.

There is no news anymore, it is marketing dressed up, and thick people lap it up, too busy with important distractions like celebrity baking and dancing.

Look at the stuff that goes on in the US - Birmingham, yes our Birmingham, is now a muslim city and Sharia law is violently imposed on the streets of London? People believed that sort of dangerous rubbish that was aimed squarely at creating hatred.

And we now discover we’ve been surrounded by state-protected sex offenders for the last four decades - and all main political parties appear guilty of harbouring and protecting perverts.

Lord Janner? Too ill to face trial but well enough to claim expenses everyday, and now that he’s finally been dragged in he’ll get six months holiday at Ford Open Prison before making a miraculous recovery.

His friends in the Commons and Lords from ALL parties will say nothing and keep supporting his pension entitlements, and we will just quietly watch people from Emmerdale overcooking scones and pretend that everything is fine.

Our society needs a serious shake up.

I don’t know how, I have no answers, just this rant.

I don’t think so, Bletch. It seems to me like it’s started with students being late with their essays. Being ‘triggered’ by a lecture or seminar discussion into some undefined trauma is the new mitigating circumstance in American liberal arts colleges.

It’s already crept over here in other ways. You can’t watch even the local news these days without some ‘trigger’ warning that what you’re about to see may be upsetting. It’s spread like a rash over teleprompted links to news items. But you’re watching the news for christ’s sake. Isn’t it bound to contain ‘upsetting’ stories rather than furry kittens?

Excellent rant rallyboy. You’re SUCH a Tory.

Ouch!

You could have put a trigger warning on that post, that has upset me.

Pap can I have Furball’s IP please, I need to track them down so I can sue them…

True, Watching Sky over the last couple of days reporting on the scenes in Bangkok, they were warning that viewers may be distressed by images captured just after the explosion.

By most sane measures, there were no distressing scenes - other than the fact that you’re learning about something truly horrendous. And as you say, this is the bloody news. You want distressing scenes, look at some of the foreign news coversage.

It’s certainly gone too far.

Is there pressure on you to warn students before you share your corrupting, politically incorrect and life-damaging views?

Please don’t be offended but Je suis une Baby Boomer. Am I to blame?

Janner won’t even get that. His is a special form of case, known as a trial of the facts. The only thing it will rule on is whether the charges are genuine. He won’t be sentenced.

Oh Furball. Pap, have a word. That ‘forum intellectual’ Badge needs to be recinded.

As for Rallyboy, all I hear is a bitter straight white dude upset that other people have the temerity to be treated like humans.

Birmingham is a Muslim City? Sure.

Sharia law in London? Sure.

C’mon Furball, where are all your demands for documented proof of all such claims? That’s what you do isn’t it. Show me how Birmingham is a Muslim city. Show me what Sharia laws have bee introduced in London. I’m sure there is plenty of evidence of such. Which I find interesting, have spent the majority of my life living in that very London, and I haven’t seen any examples of it.

It’s funny, the places such stories eminate from, The Daily Mail, Fox News, Nigel Farage, all have an agenda to push - wasn’t that what you were railing against? Biased reporting and agenda pushing. You know, stories like these: Farage, Fox & Daily Mail, the latter of which seems to periodically do the rounds on Social Media, flushing out any racist fucktards declaring how DISGUSTING it is - without realising the article is the best part of 5 years old, and guess what? It got no where.

The addition of Lord Janner into the mix is just confusing the issue. Quite what it has to do with Trigger Warnings, christ knows. Political correctness is a chuffing massive leap as well. No doubt there has been a massive miscarriae of justice there, but that is much more to do with the fact he has been a part of the political class for a pretty darn long time.

How the fuck can people get so wound up about trigger or content warnings? It’s simply a way of saying to some people, heads up - there may be something coming you won’t like. Who exactly does that hurt? How fucking entitled do you have to be to get annoyed that there is a warning for that? Are you pissed off that other people are being thought of? Are you upset that a tiny, microscopic thing may be being catered to someone else?

But as Rallyboy and CB demonstrate, it’s this masculine attitude of “I’m alright, these things don’t bother me. So therefore they shouldn’t bother anyone else. Man up”. It’s bullshit, designed to keep the status quo for people. Why does everything need to be so hostile? Literally what harm is there in having the absolute fucking minimum amount of consideration for someone else.

“Hey, lots of people have suffered from sexual abuse. It might upset them if they wern’t aware this show/book/paper talks about it, it might dredge up some pretty unpleasant memories. Perhaps we should just let them know, so they can be prepared.”

“HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?!?!? I’M NOT AFFECTED BY THIS!!! IT’S PC GONE MAD!!! THE COUNTRY HAS GONE TO THE DOGS!!”

Get in the fucking sea with that shit.

Yes, I’m sure you did go fishing, yes I bit.

I upvoted you for the rant, but I didn’t read Rallyboy’s Brum comment that way. Rather, I thought he was highlighting that the US could just make up shit about it to suit an agenda, and despite being utterly wrong, it still goes out on the news.

KRG, what the fuck are you talking about?

Ah, if that is the case, my sincerest apology. Shitty morning, taken out on the wrong person.

KRG, it was Fox News that made all those claims. RB was satirizing them. They were also taken to the cleaners for it by the Daily Show.

As above, apologies to RB. I clearly missed the point.

I thought this thread would upset people (in a meta sort of way) not make them flip. Gosh, my powers…

I did a double-take the first time I read Rallyboy’s rant, KRG

It was thinking that I knew his political stance on certain things that made me re-read it.

Stand down, everyone.

No one died.
