Thoughts on black Friday!

Now this of course is very American, I think it does not have any place in the UK high streets and online! I will not be taking part in such offers on my business website, or using such marketing exploitation.

I have heard an advert, that sums it all up for me this morning on the radio. ‘Black Friday weekend, offers end on Wednesday 2nd December’. There are a couple of things wrong with that statement!!!

FFS!!!

I like it…but then I was always a Steely Dan fan :lou_wink_2:

It’s the one day of the year when shoppers look like looters.

Last year, I went and purchased myself a PS4 (at what is still a pretty good price) without informing the gf. Set it up between the tv box and x360 (both black) and it took her a few weeks to notice.

This year I’m on the watch list. She’ll probably be tracking all my online accounts and bank balance :lou_sad:

Its racist why not white or yellow friday bloody minoritys get everything.

Because the sales bring you ‘back into the black’, as in not in the red anymore.

Nice try at faux outrage though. I’m sure Barry will be along to berate you for this shortly.

well I have been receiving daily Black Friday offers for a week now

The UK recruiters have taken a US institution and turned it into a two week mid season sale - much like every other month of the year.

Personally the thought of getting into a scrum to buy something fills me with horror. I cannot think of anything that I would want so badly to put myself through it. Plus the same item will be on sale at the same price in the mid Jan clearance sale.

You’ll get an hour window when she’s getting ready for bed :lou_wink_2:

I want a new tele. I might just get one and see if she notices.

If there is some slightly end of line / old model product that you dont mind risking broken bones to get, good luck. But half the retailers from last year are either not participating at all, or only in a limited way online, because many geared up their staffing and online infrastructure last year and found it simply did not pay.

Most customers postponed spending leading up to it, or brought forward Christmas spending, and overall revenues were no better for retailers, but costs rose and margins fell.

Why not?

Look, if I really can’t get what I want reasonably, I go the unreasonable route. I not only approve your plan, but also with to offer some quick smart responses if she acts up.

a) “What telly?”

Just pretend it isn’t there and that your girlfriend is going insane.

b) “Fuck off. I never get nuffink!”

Cumulative lack of materialism guilt trip.

c) “I bought it to match the new girlfriend I’m getting next week”

Nuclear option. Death may ensue.

I’m on the lookout for a cheap soda stream machine. It’s the missing piece of my lifes jigsaw.

Looking for a memento of apartheid?

is there a link between soda stream and apartheid that I’m unaware of? Anyway, no, I don’t need a memento of apartheid as I still own a black bit who does chores for me.

Until late 2014, Soda Stream were operating a factory in the Palestinian occupied territories. They closed it down after a lot of bad publicity.

So, I’m ok to get a soda stream then?

I still personally wouldn’t, but my objections pre-date any boycott considerations.

48 seconds! I tried that once, same result…
