Then of course there have been the changes and call ups but I’ve never heard of the lad who has replaced Delph but Jinx or something like that? Wanx?
As his squad prepare for the game, Gareth Southgate has been hit with the news that Manchester United’s Phil Jones and Manchester City’s Fabien Delph have returned to their clubs with injuries.
As a result, Southgate has promoted Tottenham’s Harry Winks to the senior squad after he was initially named in the Under 21s side.
Winks played his first 90 minutes of the season for his club as they won 3-0 away at Huddersfield and has only recently returned from an ankle ligament injury he picked up towards the end of last season.
While Spurs fans were delighted by the news of Winks first call up to England’s senior squad, other fans weren’t all that impressed with Southgate’s decision. Some suggested Everton’s Tom Davies, Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere were more worthy of a call-up than the 21-year-old.
Another player recently returned from injury who plays for the “big 6”
Apart from Jack Wilshere I agree that the other 2 should be called up.
unbeknown to most Ex pats actually like the UK we dont live there due to monetary / climate reasons (mine) but we still want our national teams to do well
The fact that England FC has not won a trophy since 1966 is irrelevant we still want them to win as stood in the pub where the game is on and most England games are shown live world wide it is embarrassing when they lose
Sorry, as explained on the SRL thread, we made an effort for his debut, but why the fuck would I want to spend 15 qud on return taxi fares, 10 quid a pint for 3 pints of beer and watch a listless England performance at midnight? That is the cost of my 4 day trip to Sofia in 2 weeks where I can bring 8 litres of Thracian Nectar home with us.
Sure I will make an effort in a WC or Euros but then I am damned if I’d open my mouth because the pub would be full of England haters and just dying to laugh at us as they get to do every tournament.
I couldn’t give a toss to be honest maybe when JWP is made Captain I’ll make an effort
Now cricket and soemtimes rugby - hell yes those guys put in some effort
Shelvey’s going to have to work on his temperament and discipline before he can think of an England recall. He looks good when he plays and then he gets banned again. You can’t afford that sort of thing in tournament football where one red card probably means you won’t play again.
