TV programs you hate

So, there are a number of programs we all dislike that the majority of the population seem to enjoy. Which programs do you hate and why?

Doctor Who: Just shit. Shit dialogue, special effects, stories etc. I also hate how excited everyone gets when a new doctor comes along. I tend to get downhearted, as it means I have to listen to more nerds banging on about this shit for at least another series.

The news. Canā€™t watch it anymore. Iā€™m at the point with it now where I was with tech articles in broadsheets 20 years ago. That would have been around the time where my general computing knowledge would start invalidating the articles based on how much they left out, or how incorrect they were.

I feel the same thing with the news. Thereā€™s no context provided, so you have stuff like the refugee crisis being discussed with no serious examination of what led to it, or criticism for those that make the decisions. Same thing with Israel. The BBC loads the debate up with people sympathetic to the Israeli agenda.

I understand that there is an element of self-containment that has to be observed in any media, but broadsheets manage to find the wider context often enough, and can be instructive in helping people to gain a better understanding of the situation. TV news is a different beast.

Soap operas in general but Eastenders in particular. What a depressing crock that programme is. And anything with the name ā€œCelebrityā€ attached. Usually the celebrities are z listers who you have never heard of. The worst is Celebrity Big Brother and the aftershow programme. Just awful.

I hadnt watched it for years but my kids got into it when Matt Smith was the Doctor and I enjoyed those. They dumped it when he left though so I havent bothered since. Used to love it as a kid until it got stuck in the Unit phase and was earthbound for too long (probably for budget reasons). If you wanted really cheap wobbly sci fi then Blakeā€™s 7 was your man.

Doctor Who has been a father/daughter nerd watch for me so I am a fan. Used to hide behind the sofa in the seventies.

I dislike all soaps and most ā€˜detectiveā€™ fodder. In fact I rarely watch tv now as I spend most of my time at work, on here or masturbating.

All 3 at the moment.

Made in Chelsea - it really depresses me that the gf watches this. I mean, sheā€™s a doctor. So sheā€™s clearly intelligent. But I just cannot understand the appeal at all. Itā€™s not real, itā€™s scripted. But they arenā€™t actors, so obviously cannot act. The entire show is basically people bumping into each other and pulling bitchy faces.

X-Factor - sorry SoG.

Agree about Eastenders, itā€™s banned in my house, full of miserable low-lifes. Someone once said to me taht after watching Eastenders he always felt he needed to have a shower. Iā€™m not a fan of soaps in general but my daughter loves Corrie and I have to say I donā€™t mind watching it. The reason being that it is funny, some of the characters are brilliantly done and very amusing.

What gets me about TV nowadays is how they treat the viewer as if they have short term memory loss. At the start of the programme they tell you whatā€™s coming up, tell you again before the ad break and again after the ad break. A 30 minute program only actually has 15 minutes of content.

TV is also so formulaic and repetitive nowadays, you tend to know what is going to happen next.

Same position mate, missus has a first in Economics, but watches that, TOWIE, and some shit called Teen Mum. Iā€™ve told her everytime she watches it it makes me love her a little less.

Soap Operaā€™s arenā€™t my thing at all, so i wonā€™t watch them. Fortunately the rest of the house canā€™t be doing with them either, so they get no play. Like CB Saint, I canā€™t stand Davina McCall, so anything with her, or for that matter Chris Evans, forces me to leave the room.

Dislike the ā€œcomedyā€ programmes that appear to me to be a forum for unfunny people to talk bollocks - 10 cats? (or something like that), mock the week, etc, etc. As i get older, i get less tolerant of that sort of shit.

Itā€™s just shit ripped from their stand-up thatā€™s annoying. Mock the Week is just the worst for that shit. At least 8 out of 10 Cats has Sean Lock, who is just one of the most abstract blokes.

You chaps and chapesses should be pleased you donā€™t have the E! network as we do here in North America.

Constant reality shit from start to finish without a shred of intellect involved. That said, I do watch the soup which is a less intelligent version of Charlie Brooker taking the piss out of all the tripe on this network. Here are just some of the delights you could be watching:

I am Cait, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Total Divas (wwe divas, fit but shit), WAGS of sports stars, The Royals (TOWIE with pretend royals), Fashion policeā€¦

My wife watches this network when Iā€™m out/playing the piano, itā€™s the trade off for me being able to watch the Premier league from 7.30am - 1pm with little Zamboni on Saturdays

Glad itā€™s not just me that canā€™t stand Davina McCall, the sort of person youā€™d never get tired of hitting.

I feel you there man. Our agreement is she watches whatever she wants, unless there is football on. Otherwise I just sit and play a game* or go for a walk.

*Yes, I am an insufferable games bore.

Probably not the best choice of phrase given some of the other threads here but I agree she is very irritating. As is Keith Lemon. How that guy gets airtime is beyond my comprehension.

Typo there, KRG? :zipper_mouth:

That took me far longer than it should have done to work out. But sadly no, itā€™s all part of my physio.

ā€¦this probably doesnā€™t help much.

No problem with people hating X Factor at all. I used to avoid it like the plague until I meet Mrs SOG and then became immune to its trashness. Having said that I am finding it harder to sit through it with its revamped board. Nick Grimshaw seems like a nice boy but he has all of the presence of a stuffed parrot. Simon Cowell was more interesting when he was nasty - he seems to have mellowed a bit now. Trouble is it doesnt even have that pantomime effect anymore to make it more interesting.

Totally there with Made in Chelsea. How anyone can be interested in a bunch of rich, narcissistic posers is beyond me. That and TOWIE. Both completely pointless programmes. What really puzzles me is how unselfaware all of these people are. If I was in any of these programmes I would die of shame, but they seem to think that they are now famous and deserving of the celebrity tag. I dont think we will see any of them playing Hamlet any time soon.

Now I just spat my coffee over my iPad you bastard!

I do not watch much TV. Bit of comedy, but mostly sport. Football and American football this time of year. I prefer to listen to music as much as I can! As I spend most of my day in the kitchen, or in my car, this suits me fine!
