That pissed me off too last night, just how easy it was to blow Morata over…he made no attempt to get past his opponent…feel a hand on you shoulder you go down.
What I hope VAR will do is to toughen up the game, remove the feeling that any contact means you’re entitled to go down. That has to be the stated intention of the Referee’s Association; they will be given the opportunity to turn back the clock but I’m afraid they will probably fudge it again.
I’ve seen them given! I need to see it again, but he was grabbing him. I’ve watched the Willian one again this morning and think that was definately a pen.
I thought it was a pen, all the professionals in the MoTD studio thought it was a pen, Willian thought it was a pen and even the bloke that was accused of fouling Willian said that he had fouled Willian and that he thought it was a pen.
Instead of Conte, did you mean that Konta makes a fair point in the interview?
As an aside, I’ve always thought that Konta has a couple of fair points, but I’m not sure I’d rush to her for commentary on the accuracy of refereeing decisions in football.

I love VAR and think it’s a wonderful thing. It’s just having a few teething problems… like the fact that it’s a massively fucked way of doing it.
With this specific pen thing, I think the problem is that the directive they have to follow is that they can only change the ref’s decision if there is a 100% cast iron error. I agree that in this case it was a 90% chance of an error, but there is still divided opinion on it so how could he change the ref’s original decision?
I think its just about folks accepting a set process to deal with the subjective eg.
To overturn a ref decision the VAR team of say 4 have to ALL agree - one decenting voice and it stay with on the field decision - becaus if its not obvious enough to all…etc
Also the VAR team should NOT include explayers as these tend to have very strond opinions of how the game shoudl be played as oppoosed to the rules that givern it - they should be a mix of ex and curret refs - as thius will also help in teh development of those currently still in game.
The biggest problem was the idiot making the VAR calls. Mike Jones can’t be trusted to sit the right way on a bog seat.
Let the ex-refs (except Jeff Winter) man the VAR, as they won’t have the worry about upsetting their colleagues. Most of them do it through newspaper articles already.
