Var

Though tbf it looks like he could have stayed on his feet rather than “fallen” over - reminiscent of Susan a couple of times every game?

Oh, please don’t humour him @cobham-saint .

I thought it was a pen, all the professionals in the MoTD studio thought it was a pen, Willian thought it was a pen and even the bloke that was accused of fouling Willian said that he had fouled Willian and that he thought it was a pen.

VAR died last night.

RIP.

OK, that’s the BBC’s tennis page, @btripz .

Instead of Conte, did you mean that Konta makes a fair point in the interview?

As an aside, I’ve always thought that Konta has a couple of fair points, but I’m not sure I’d rush to her for commentary on the accuracy of refereeing decisions in football.

Oh FFS

Lesson number 1, don’t link to BBC Sport videos, it don’t work

Try this link instead

Lesson 2, @saintbletch is a cunt :lou_lol:

I’d sooner be a cunt that knows when a penalty is a penalty than just a cunt.

Perhaps that is the answer. Do away with technology and just ask the alleged perpetrator if they thought it was a penalty.

Fair play, @btripz , Johanna Konta does make a fair point.

The umpire should have waited for hawk-eye before issuing a code violation.

You needed lessons to determine this? #BTdumbass :lou_wink_2:

I love VAR and think it’s a wonderful thing. It’s just having a few teething problems… like the fact that it’s a massively fucked way of doing it.

With this specific pen thing, I think the problem is that the directive they have to follow is that they can only change the ref’s decision if there is a 100% cast iron error. I agree that in this case it was a 90% chance of an error, but there is still divided opinion on it so how could he change the ref’s original decision?

Exactly @themightyostrich VAR should only be used for factual decisions like ball out, is it a corner or a goal kick, offisides etc. etc. etc.

Subjective decisions like handballs and fouls shouldn’t be decided this way!

I think its just about folks accepting a set process to deal with the subjective eg.

To overturn a ref decision the VAR team of say 4 have to ALL agree - one decenting voice and it stay with on the field decision - becaus if its not obvious enough to all…etc

Also the VAR team should NOT include explayers as these tend to have very strond opinions of how the game shoudl be played as oppoosed to the rules that givern it - they should be a mix of ex and curret refs - as thius will also help in teh development of those currently still in game.

Except the handball by Watford against Saints :lou_facepalm_2:

The biggest problem was the idiot making the VAR calls. Mike Jones can’t be trusted to sit the right way on a bog seat.

Let the ex-refs (except Jeff Winter) man the VAR, as they won’t have the worry about upsetting their colleagues. Most of them do it through newspaper articles already.

Good call, the bald bloke (not the italian one) does that already for BT so why he can’t do it in Stokley Park?

Howard Webb!! Wonder if he would be so opiniated if he was having to make the calls again!!

Wait until you’re actually at a game with BAR.

Saw it in action in Krakow in December for a penalty appeal.

Odd is my description.

It may improve decisions not sure about the match experience but who cares about actual spectators

So, today, Liverpool v West Brom.

Salah goes down theatrically and gets awarded a penalty via VAR.

Would you seriously have given that as a penalty??

Teams will win a few and lose a few decisions - it’s not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things - at least there’s an opportunity for a second decision - rather than regular moaning about refs getting it wrong…I reserve my right to say VAR is bollocks when things clearly are not right and decisions go against us…

We have the VAR down hear in the Oz-League.

Fans hate it, refs fuck it up and the game is now boring as bat shit because of it

My two cents is it’s not worth it but I’m not an FA tie and jacket looking for ways to keep the population down
