Brexit

MOD EDIT : Barry started a thread on the implications of a Brexit.

http://www.spectator.co.uk/2016/01/what-brexit-would-look-like-for-britain/

Yeah, we’ve got a European Union thread, Bazza. Don’t like these shitey thread titles which dupe stuff elsewhere.

Right, I’ve thought better on this.

The thread survives with a new title.

In future, please do us the honour of doing what I did there - e.g. use a picosecond of brain cycle activity to come up with something that people might respond to.

Most of your thread titles are shite.

Anyway interesting read and I wholly agree, the remark concerning little europeans made me chuckle, the case is surely ever growing for an exit, we put more money in than we get out, trade is down and whether we like it or not globalisation will force us to trade everywhere else anyway, what about global deals as the writer suggests?

I’m relatively ambivalent about Brexit. I don’t think it’ll be the disaster people are making it out to be, nor do I think it’ll be permanent. It may be the only thing that gets the EU to reform.

I agree I’m for an exit or for a total reshaping of what we do now, I used to be totally open to in or out but within the last year or so I have gone to change or out, we are not alone in this as nearly all in the EU want change and they want a vote on it, all we ask for is a vote on it possibly once every 10 years or so, times change and this is something (a social and trade experiment) that has run its course, Europe has always traded together, they are our cousins but the World hass changed and we need to change.

I’m ambivalent re: brexit bc I don’t know what it is. I quite like the word tho. Brexit. It’s what Aldi call their Weetabix.

I find Britains constant Little Englender approach to the EU the saddest part of this. As an institution it is far from perfect - indeed it can’t argue for some of its strange idiosyncrasies, beurocracy and at times strange practices… But at a time when this fucking planet seems hellbent on striving for division and disunity rather damning

Indeed our attitude as a nation has always been one of a bunch of miserable cunts wringing about its problems, rather than being a stronger integrated member leading change and reform for the betterment of all…

Britain has always had a selfish attitude to the EU which means we will never get the real benefits of being a leading member

That’s exactly what I was thinking bear (darkside bear and all that). I was going to say two is not enough but 3 is too many… then you came in and aldi’d it. :frowning:

I think instead of us moving out of the EU we should insist all the crap nations leave and get rid of them all one by one until we are the only ones left. Don’t worry Baz, the result is the same it’s just a more subtile way of going about it. First up, the Greeks, they are skint and easy to bully, offer them a quid and they will fuck off. From there on to the Itlaians and then the rest.

What about a little European always whinging abut people who want a fairer and better deal for their Country? No crime in that is there? Many other European Nations feel the same so come on in you are more than welcome and get on board for a more open, honest and transparent Europe, one where we can all decide and be given a vote and one where we can change things.

The little pro Europeans have had their undemocratic way for far far too long, times are changing.

The Germans bullied them (I refer to again National policies will always overshadow EU ones). Bazza is a democrat who supports transparency and honesty, why should the poorer Nations suffer braindrains and in turn the richer ones have cheap labour? A vanity project which has really benefitted no one other than the MEP’s and the Brussels gravy train, I wouldn’t mind but we don’t get a vote on an awful lot of things.

Jesus… 2nd day in a row… Gulp… Ok here goes… I agree Barry.

There’s a great conspiracy theory about the EU being a Nazi project to take over Europe. I’ve not been able to get into it myself, largely on the basis that the Express & Mail have both run stories on it. Barry; off you go.

I wont validate conjecture Pap, you also are better than cheap conspiracy theories.

I don’t think you realise how many there are, Bazza. There’s an entire school of thought dedicated to Beyoncé and Jay Z alone. Cheap is relative :lou_wink_2:

If Michael Caine wants out we go out, discussion over, we will soon be free.

This is an interesting new tactic you seem to have adopted Baz, “no you”. Let’s see where it gets you.

Shame, as after a dodgy start you were making some sense on this thread (by your standards). Though, you are purely speculating on your all the EU countries want out. I’d ask for something that illustrate this, but we all know what’s going to happen. You pull some op-ed from 1972 that apparently you claim wins the argument, but actually goes against what you are saying.

FWIW I kind of agree with some of what Baz has said above. I do think reform is needed. It can’t remain so shady, and keep up this appearance of decisions being made in smokey rooms, as it were. Still would much rather us in than out, and with that agree with Gay on the little Englander stuff. Especially at times like this. Easy to forget that one of the founding principles was to create a dependency that stopped wars from killing all the kids in our countries, and on that front it’s worked a fucking treat.
