He is a machine that bloke. But the whole defence as a unit, including the keeper are pretty shit hot.
VVD and Fonte together and fit are the best centre back pairing in the premier league.

He’s as casual as Gary Cahill, with one or two very slight differences.
An ability to read the game, and the technical skills to deal with most things.

In my time supporting Saints Dean Richards is the only one who I was truly gutted to see leave. Don’t think he fulfilled his potential at Spurs and then sadly died far too young.

I agree, TCK. The problem is, I also agree with Jamie Redknapp who said he could go right to the top and play for Barcelona or Real Madrid. He is just far too good for us. Quite easily the best CB I can remember playing for us (bearing in mind I have a terrible memory). I’d be surprised if he is not sold in the summer and whatever the price, it won’t be enough.

I think it’s fair to say he’s too good for most teams. He will no doubt leave us at some point (please not fucking liverpool) but until then it will be a joy to watch him playing in red and white.
He is immense. I’ve only ever seen him lose an aerial duel twice. One of those was today to Kouyate and it mattered not.
When he does move on, it’s got to be for a club record fee (£50m for Stones remember) and I agree Gav…PLEASE not fucking Liverpool. I suspect it will be Utd after a year of public media courting.
I also think Bertrand could walk in to a few teams above us in the pecking order. Ironically I’ve got Chelsea mates who agree!

That poster of ours called Fatso - he’s far too good for us. He’ll be off to Red and White Kop soon. If he had a memory he could post for Barca.
Michael Svensson had a spell of similar dominance, but he never had the ease on the ball of VvD.

Yes, inevitable that he’s going to leave. Too good for Liverpool I reckon. As Fatso says this lad’s going straight to one of the top clubs.
If we can keep him for another season after this I’ll be gobsmacked.

Jamie Redknapp was commenting on VVD after the game and said he thought he is good enough to play for Barca or RM. Hopefully he won’t make an intermediate step-up before reaching this ultimate level.
