Watford Vs Southampton - Match Thread 4/3/17

I’ve had sufficient time to wallow in my own self pity, time to get back on the horse and look towards the next game. If we play like we did against Man Utd 3 points are there for the taking, especially if Gabbiadini continues his incredible form.

Be interesting to see if the squad rotation will continue, or if we will see a more consistent line up from here til the end of the season. Be interesting to see if Caceres will get some game time too. Lots of interesting possibilities.

I will conservatively predict 0-2, Gabbiadini and Redmond on the scoresheet.

The Watford striker was carried off against West Ham at the weekend with a torn cruciate ligament so will not be available in light of that cannot see them scoring

0-4 Gabbiadini getting at least a pair of braces.

I haven’t had anywhere near enough time to wallow in self-pity. I’m just repressing it at the moment and it will come out in a massive embarrassing tirade when I next get drunk. Looking forward to that.

Heart says we’ll smash them with our new-found attacking flair and in-form hitman, head says we may suffer a slight hangover form the disappointment. Up to the fans that go to get the team up for it, so I’ll blame any of you that are there if we lose.

3-1 to the mighty Saints, that’s all*

*don’t want to make big or grandiose statements for fear of being accused of trying to steal thunder :lou_sad:

2 nil to Saints for me as well.

I also predict Hassan will play, Fraser looked like he was struggling with injury yesterday

I’m expecting us to take out our disappointment on Watford. 0-3, maybe higher.

I think the players will be stronger as a unit, with more belief in themselves after yesterday and will be eager to get back on the pitch to prove it.

Caseres, Højbjerg and Boufal will all start i think.

Watford are going to get some

4 - 1 (2 for manolo, one for schlong and one for boufal)

We will concede cos we seem to be a bit shit in defence at the moment

That’s generous. I just thought he looked shit.

I’ll go for the score, but a brace for Gabbiadini and one for Redmond (I’m feeling charitable…)

He was not comfortable with either, leg, knee, ankle, but he was struggling throughout. I have noticed for a few games now, he was been limping and stretching his leg out. This is having a negative impact on his all round keeping though. You do not go from a top class keeper to nothing, unless you do dandruff adverts!

Fair play for noticing that. It wasn’t evident from the TV coverage. I just assumed it was the good old tactic of ‘hold your hammy and blame injury when you just shanked your uncontested clearance straight to the opposition’. A classic.

Seemed to have it, from the off, very early on I noticed him hobbling. But worse than normal, when I have seen it on a stream, for league games. I was on Forster watch! ha ha. Seriously any sort of injury will have a massive impact on your game. The club must know, but still choose him over other choices.

err … it was. He looked like he was obviously having trouble with his knee for a large part of the second half, something pointed out a couple of times by the commentators.

This explains why he is not comfortable coming to claim crosses, as he has no leverage to get off the ground. Again no spring/speed to get across to the free kick. All a little worrying and the reason for his lack of form. Do the club not have the confidence in the reserve keepers to keep playing him? Strange one!

Did his poorly leg stop him catching the ball when he opted for a shit punch?

Forster did look like he was holding his hamstring and then seemed to be trying stretch it out in the first half, and I thought here we go, but then he wellied one up field and I thought nothing of it

I think his injury, has knocked his confidence big time, and yes it could be an excuse for opting to punch instead of catching. Saying this he is not the only keeper to punch instead of catching, as it seems to be the in thing.

I’m afraid I’m not with any on this Forster bashing, as it just does not sit well with me. The club or more importantly the coaching and management, do not see a better option at this moment in time, than playing an injured keeper! Now that is more worrying for me!

I have always felt Davis was a limiting factor to our progress and I think the final showed that being at fault for the first goal and possily the second. Now is the time to phase him out. Im hoping Claise can be coached

Foster has always redeemed himself for me through his reaction blocks and making the goal small. The fact he cant seem to get off his line is a major problem for him becoming a top class goalie. For us the pluses always out weighed the negatives. But now his reactions seem to be deserting him and his movement is slow. Take the third goal at Wembly for example. With that part of his game going I think we should change. Not sure the second or third choice Nice goalie is the answer but who knows. I do like a goalie to be at least 6ft 4in. I have always like what i have seem of McCarthy but unsure until he is given a run of games. Now would be the time to do that if he wasnt still injured. Most outfield players seem to heal hanstrings quicker than he has??

The elephant in the room is that with Dave Watson we seemed to have plans to build a mini goal keeping academy. His coaching failure with Foster doesnt bode well for that initiative.
