27 October 2017
I must admit to cutting our friends down the road a bit of slack at the moment after one of them posted this on FB after my mate passed away recently:
So.....today’s legend goes to......Tony Dyke....... Tony was born in a Sutton, Surrey in 1962 becoming the older brother and best mate to Colin Dyke. At the tender age of 4, Tony moved to Romsey , where he spent most of his childhood. In 1982, he took the plunge and moved to Southampton. It was in his early childhood that Tony found his first love ....... Southampton Football Club, where he and his brother spent many a Saturday afternoon cheering on the Saints. Throughout the years Tony and his brother Colin loved to ridicule the humble Pompey fans...always bantering and mocking. I loved the banter and gave back as good as I got, realising that although we were separated by motorway, we we’re kindred spirits. In 2017, Tony was diagnosed with cancer. But, in true Southern spirit, he mocked this bastard of a disease and carried on fighting. On Thursday 05th October, Tony run out of fight. As a lifelong Pompey fan I want to honour this man, he never gave in and fought to the end.... Tony Dyke......we from the blue half of Hampshire salute you.... R.I.P Tony...... love to your family.
