West Coast USA

Within the next few months but probably either at Chrimbo or when the universities start kicking out for the summer (when is that?) I have to go to the above.

I would like to fly into San Diego and make my way up to Seattle whereupon I will return to these shores and a bit inland as I am not a seagull.

Any and all advice would be welcomed (save that about my writing style) but I have especial interest in a number of things. Some of them relate to the West Coast and will be detailed in no particular order. And I promise not to quote anyone ( keep Pap happy).

1/ Is going when the Euros on going to be a good idea so I can watch footy while drinking orange juice straight from an orange? Any places recommended or just one that doesn’t have the #2 loo next to the #1 loo with no form of barrier as was the case at some place in New Orleans.

2/ Never driven over there? Is it easy/safe/cheap?

3/ I am on a budget and want to see lots - how awful is the Greyhound (and how interesting: do the windows open at opportune moments?) and what is the lowest level of dive I can safely visit while knowing that my crown jewels and things like electronic equipment won’t be hijacked? They can have the used socks if they have holes in them.

4/ Has the west coast ubiquitous and free internet unlike everywhere else in the most advanced country in the world ™?

5/ Good places to see/go/do (things)?

6/ I’m English-ish. I have feet. They walk, I follow. How easy is it to do this?

7/ Will I meet the Beach Boys?

8/ Why am I being prompted to go to the automatic saints news thread? Is Clasie fit?

9/ Where are good places for people listening and watching? If there are no people, the locals will do.

10/ What budget should I have? This might necessitate the sale of a kidney.

11/ Where can one find healthy food (and fibre) in the US? And decent milk? And why do people like pastrami so much? I do need to avoid horribly unhealthy food but do with to try things like grits. Or maybe I don’t.

12/ Should I learn the urban dictionary by heart or just pretend I’m the Duke of York and throw myself at every ginger I see?

13/ Are people wary of strangers or just strange people? Can I get away with being somewhat strange and then just saying “I’m English”?

14/ Is Portland worth a visit? I like dull and gloomy places?

15/Are there good views from the trains?

16/ I have a lot of change - is it easy to use a laundromat, will it clean my clothes and will I find anyone naked when I enter it? Does it dry them? The clothes, not the naked people.

17/ How different are westerners are easteners and can I say you all sound the same?

18/ After the west coast is Wyoming worth a visit or should I stick with Google Earth?

19/ Is it easy/worthwhile paying a quick visit to Vancouver? I will walk a lot it seems.

20/ How long would you/anyone who knows suggest this trip take? That will tie in with the cost thing as it seems hotels and the like want to take all your money asap.

21/ What should I look for in a hostel/hotel/b+b/motel (what are the differences) and … something or another.

22/ What questions have I forgotten to ask that I should have asked and what are the answers? I have no interest in longitude and latitude.

Thankee.

i.e. for those who know, please blurb all as and when.
