I’ve been a bit of a Jazz “Lite” fan over the years dipped my toe in via the Jazz/Fusion boys…John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny and some of the greats, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing etc. I’m a blues and rock man at heart and find a lot of jazz to be a lot of self absorbed “noodleing”…something that takes an effort to get into.
In the last few months I’ve been hearing the name and catching snippets of Kamasi Washington. From what I’ve read there is a large weight of opinion that he’s the next “great” in the making. There is certainly no shortage of ambition in his music…this is Jazz on an “epic” scale…fittingly this years triple album is entitled “The Epic”
Any one like to chip in?
